North Carolina v. Virginia College Football Odds & Lines

Written October 16, 2008 by Jay Todd

The upstart Tar Heels go on the road to take on the Virginia Cavaliers this Saturday. North Carolina has been one of the big surprises this year as they are 5-1 and has wins over Miami, UConn, and most recently Notre Dame. Virginia is coming off two solid wins, but look for UNC to be way too much for them in this one. North Carolina is currently a 4.5-point favorite over Virginia. Remember to check our feed for the latest college football odds on all the games this weekend.

Cameron Sexton will be under center for the Tar Heels in this one. Sexton has done an outstanding job in filling in for injured quarterback T.J. Yates. Sexton has thrown for three touchdowns since taking off. More importantly he has done a great job at managing games and taking care for the ball. With a great defense and special teams look for Sexton to do all the little things right in this game.

North Carolina has a solid running game that features two different backs. Shaun Draughn and Greg Little have combined for over 520 yards per game and five touchdowns. Virginia is giving up 140 yards per game on the ground. Look for UNC to set up the running game early in this one, and then pound away late in the game.

North Carolina’s tough defense will have a field day against Virginia. UVA averages just 17 points per game. It is uncertain who will start at quarterback for the Cavaliers, but to be honest it really doesn’t matter. UVA quarterbacks have thrown just four touchdowns, while throwing 11 interceptions on the year. This Tar Heel defense has forced 14 interceptions so far on this season, so look for them to at least grab two picks in this one.

North Carolina has just found ways to win games this year and Jay Todd looks for that to continue in this one. His college football picks for this week recommend a play on North Carolina -4.5 over Virginia.
