Football Betting: Notre Dame at Michigan
Written September 11, 2009 by Jack Jones
Even though there is a huge game this week taking place, doesn’t mean that all eyes should be focuses there. Southern Cal goes to Ohio State to face off against the Buckeyes at the Horseshoe, so there will be enough coverage of this Top-10 collision. Bet this game at Bookmaker and get a 20% signup bonus!
With that said, we’re going to take a peek at another big game, our matchup of the week pitting Notre Dame against Michigan. Both the Irish and the Wolverines looked great in their opening week games, and now the pressure is on for the two honored programs to see which can avoid a costly early season loss.
Charlie Weis likely couldn’t have demanded a better start to the season against Nevada. Of course, Nevada couldn’t put upt any points throughout the game, but it was the consistent and lethal passing game that thrived under quarterback Jimmy Clausen. The junior, who appears to have finally tapped into his potential, passed for 315 yards on 15-of-18 and four touchdowns. His wideouts Michael Floyd and Golden Tate look to be a very high impact pair, while tight end Kyle Rudolph is physically talented enough to dominate at both catching passes and blocking. The ground game, though, still looks shady, and 178 yards via the run against a shaky Wolf Pack defense still doesn’t prove much. The Irish easily managed to cover as 14.5-point favorites on their home field.
Michigan, just the same, impressed their audience, but it was the new players that managed to seize the allure of the U of M sponsors. True freshman quarterback Tate Forcier tossed three scores and managed the offense for most of the contest, not producing any slips. Another new star rising is the speed merchant Denard Robinson, who got some hype in the offseason for leaving his shoes untied when on the field. Seemingly he doesn’t need to, as a big 43-yard scramble for a touchdown showed he acknowledges precisely how to make things happen when he has the football. Similar to Notre Dame, the Wolverines cashed at the pay window, as a 31-7 victory outdid the 13 points they were favored at home to Western Michigan.
Now breaking down this game. And the resolving component with two offenses that can both light up the scoreboard should be the defenses and which team is more effective when called upon. Personally, and this is with my pro-Michigan hat off, the Wolverines have a swifter and sounder defensive unit. I think they can get more heat on the quarterback, and the secondary appears more probable to slow down the passing game. And that will be the main focus, as Weis will sure enough be determined to move the chains and see how effective Clausen can be in tearing up the defensive backs of Michigan for some action through the air.
Notre Dame comes in as 3.5-point road chalk. However the sportsbook odds can be found at 3 if you shop around. I would think keep steady between 3 and 3.5, and that could be key, as this could be a close game all day up in Michigan. The dog has profited all but two of the previous 10 meetings in this series, but the Irish are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 vs. the Wolverines. Notre Dame’s last victory in Ann Arbor was in 2005, and U of M has won all but one of the last five in the Big House over Notre Dame. No total has been released yet, but if I had to throw out a guess, I would judge around 44 or 45.
