Oakland Raiders at Cleveland Browns NFL Odds
Written December 26, 2009 by Black Widow
The Oakland Raiders and Cleveland Browns have each overachieved lately. Oakland has beaten a few teams that will likely make the playoffs this year, most recently the Denver Broncos last week in a 20-19 road win. Cleveland has won back-to-back games, including a huge 13-6 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers two weeks ago. Now the Browns and Raiders square off Sunday in Cleveland. NFL odds for this contest have the Browns -3 over the Raiders with a Total Set of 37 points.
Mike Holmgren has been hired as the new team president in Cleveland, which means Eric Mangini’s days as coach could be numbered. But if the Browns can find a way to win their third straight Sunday, Holmgren might have to give him a serious look. Cleveland is guaranteed to finish with a losing record for the sixth time in seven years either way, though. Brady Quinn has been place on the injured reserve with a foot injury, meaning it’s up to backup Derek Anderson to keep the momentum going. But Quinn cannot be credited much for Cleveland’s 41-34 win over Kansas City last week. Jerome Harrison finished with 286 rushing yards and three touchdowns, the third-highest rushing total in a single game in NFL history. Star returner Joshua Cribbs returned two 100-plus kickoffs for touchdowns as well in the win.

Tom Cable is still on the hot seat for Oakland as well, but the kinds of wins the Raiders have picked up this season give him a good chance to stay around. The Raiders will be attempting to win a third straight road game for the first time since 2002, beating the Steelers and Broncos in their last two trips away from Oakland. Bruce Gradkowski didn’t play because of ankle problems, so Charlie Frye got the start last week. But it was JaMarcus Russell who led the game-winning drive after Frye was knocked out with a concussion, hooking up with Chaz Shilens on a 10-yard touchdown pass with only 35 seconds to go to give the Raiders a 20-19 win. Frye has been cleared to play, so he’ll get the nod against Cleveland Sunday. Players such as Darren McFadden have stated that they are playing hard for coach Cable and would love to see him back next year.
