Oakland Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs Odds
Written September 18, 2009 by Black Widow
The Kansas City Chiefs and Oakland Raiders both started 0-1, but each took two playoff teams down to the wire after each combined for 25 losses a year ago. It hurts to lose, but both can be proud of the way they battled and it’s a good sign of improvement heading into their Week 2 meeting. NFL odds have installed Kansas City -3 over Oakland with a Total Set of 38.5 points. If you are going to partake in NFL betting this weekend, then do it at Sportsbook.com.
Kansas City hopes to have QB Matt Cassel back in the lineup Sunday. They signed him to a six-year, $28 million guaranteed contract and need him on the field if they are to turn the corner this season. Despite the loss of Cassel last week, K.C. was tied with Baltimore 24-24 with just over 5 minutes remaining after a 10-yard TD reception by Ryan Sears. If Cassel cannot go, expect Brody Croyle to get the start again after completing 16-of-24 passes for 177 yards and two touchdowns last week. The Chiefs were outgained 501-188 in their game with Baltimore, so their offense really needs to get things going.

While the Chiefs were clearly outplayed last Sunday, the Raiders were not. That makes their 20-24 loss to the San Diego Chargers a bit more painful. Oakland blew leads to the Chargers twice in the fourth quarter, with the final score by San Diego coming with 18 seconds remaining. Richard Seymour made an immediate impact on defense despite not practicing with the team last week, sacking Phillip Rivers twice. The offense put together 377 total yards, the highest total they’ve put up since 2007. JaMarcus Russell was solid, but he still made a few mistakes. He finished 12-of-30 for 208 yards with 1 touchdowns and 2 interceptions. He threw the ball well to tight end Zach Miller for 96 of those yards, but he completed just 3-of-18 to wide receivers and that’s the area this team needs to improve on if the offense is going to be more dynamic this week. These teams split meetings in 2008, with the road team winning each time. The Raiders won in K.C. 23-8 behind 164 rushing yard and a touchdown from Darren McFadden. The second-year pro was solid last week, rushing for 68 yards on 17 carries against San Diego.
