Odds on First MLB Manager to Get Fired in 2009

We are not even a month into the season, but the guys over at BetUS Sportsbook are already looking forward to see which manager will be the first on the chopping block. Teams like the Toronto Blue Jays are off to fast starts, while teams like the Cleveland Indians are disappointing their fan bases. Fans are already getting anxious to pull the trigger on getting rid of their top decision maker so let’s take a look at the odds on who gets fired first this year.
The Hot Seat – There are several coaches that have to start wondering if they should put the house on the market, including Manny Acta of the Washington Nationals (2/1), Ron Washington of the Texas Rangers (4/1), and Cecil Cooper of the Houston Astros (4/1). You also can’t feel comfortable if you are Eric Wedge of Cleveland (5/1), Clint Hurdle of the Rockies (5/1), Ken Macha in Milwaukee (6/1), Joe Giarardi of the Yankees (6/1), Bob Geren of the Oakland A’s (7/1), Fredi Gonzalez of Florida (8/1), Bruce Bochy in San Francisco (8/1), or Joe Maddon in Tampa (8/1).
Getting Warmer – There are a handful of coaches that are safe for now, but don’t have quite as much wriggle room if their teams underperform this season, starting with Trey Hillman in Kansas City (10/1), Bobby Cox in Atlanta (10/1), Bud Black out in San Diego (10/1), Dave Trembley of Baltimore (10/1), and Jim Leyland of the Tigers (10/1). Slightly safer are Cito Gaston in Toronto (12/1), Don Wakamatsu in Seattle (12/1), Dusty Baker of the Reds at 12/1, Ron Gardenhire of the Twins (12/1), and Jerry Manuel of the NY Mets (12/1). All of these coaches are at 15/1: Ozzie Guillen of the White Sox, Charlie Manuel of the Phillies and John Russell of the Pirates.
As Safe As It Gets – Don’t expect any of these guys to get fired unless something serious happens: Tony La Russa in St. Louis (20/1), Mike Sciosci of the Angels (20/1), Joe Torre for the Dodgers (20/1), Lou Piniella for the Cubs (20/1), Terry Francona in Boston (20/1) and Bob Melvin in Arizona (20/1).

When i was a kid i loved watching cecil cooper he was similar to gary matthews they always gave 110% which turnred them from average players to above average players , BUT Cecil Cooper is a num-nuts of a manager and should be fired immediatley.

I don’t see Bob Geren going anytime soon, since he was the Best man at his GMs wedding. They are buds, so as that last paragraph goes, something serious has to go wrong to get him out.

Well, it was 20:1, as-safe-as-it-gets Bob Melvin. I hope nobody bet on this.
