Odds to Win NBA Finals 2009
Written May 18, 2009 by Jack Jones
After a Sunday that featured Game 7s in both conferences, it’s time to take a look at what the future may hold. The Los Angeles Lakers will be playing host to the Denver Nuggets tomorrow in Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals after they easily took care of Houston yesterday. The Orlando Magic took care of business up in Boston as well, earning themselves a trip to Cleveland to take on the Cavs in the Eastern Conference Finals. If you want to finish off your NBA betting strong, then take a look at the $500 match bonus offered by BetUS to our readers.
Out West the Lakers are -6.5 favorites in Game 1 to beat the Denver Nuggets. It doesn’t seem like Chauncey Billups, Carmelo Anthony and company are getting much respect after coasting through the first two rounds as the No. 2 seed. Right now the Denver is +210 to win the West, while the Lakers are listed at -280. When it comes to odds to win the NBA title the Nuggets drop off even further, getting +750. The Lakers on the other hand are currently +160, which is surprising only because they seemed to be the favorites the entire season but are no longer.
Now let’s take a look at the futures odds for the teams in the East. It comes as no surprise that the Cavs are favored over the Orlando Magic with the Cavs laying a hefty -800. The Magic could provide some solid value here with their number at +500.  However, it’s been tough to win in Cleveland all year long, so it’s no surprise that in Game 1 the Cavs are 9-point favorites over the Magic. When it comes to the odds to win the 2009 NBA Finals the Cavs lead the way at -155 and the Magic have the longest odds coming in at +1600.
If you want to bet the NBA odds on specific finals matchups then the most likely choice is the Lakers v. Cavs, which is listed at -225. The Nuggets v. Cavs is the second most likely scenario with the odds at +240, followed by the Lakers v. the Magic +650 and the least likely (and least popular in terms of ratings) being the Nuggets v. the Magic at +1750.

Got something to say?

The most likely finals mathchup is the Lakers v. Celtics??? I think there is a mistake.

Thanks for catching this, David. The most likely Finals match up is, of course, the Lakers and CAVS. This has been corrected.
