Odds to Win the 2009 NCAA Championship

Written March 23, 2009 by Jack Jones

Odds to Win NCAA ChampionshipWe are down to the final 16 teams after two exciting rounds of the NCAA basketball tournament but the action is far from over.  The winner will still have to rattle off four more straight victories in order to claim the national basketball title.  Sportsbook.com has updated their college basketball odds and doesn’t only have the spreads posted for next round, but also the numbers for each team’s odds to win the whole thing.

Favorites - North Carolina (7/2) and Louisville (7/2) are co-favorites to win it all.  Both had slight scares in the second round but have too much talent to be disregarded.  Next are the other two No. 1 seeds with Pittsburgh (11/2) and UConn (6/1).  The Panthers haven’t looked dominant in the first two rounds and while UConn has, there are still questions about if this team can win without Jermone Dyson.  Memphis is also 6/1 after they blew out Maryland in the second round.

Next in Line – If you want the best value then you might want to look at the two seeds Duke (15/1) and Oklahoma (15/1).  Syracuse is listed at 15/1, while Gonzaga is at 18/1.  Michigan State may be a two seed, but they aren’t getting much love with their 20/1 odds.  No. 3 seed Villanova has a tough path to the title and that’s why they are getting 20/1 odds.

Long Shots – Kansas has made it longer than most people thought, but at 25/1 the books don’t think their success will continue.  Missouri is at 30/1, followed by Purdue at 40/1.  If you like taking chances for a big payout then why not look at the Boilermakers at those kind of odds?  Xavier (50/1) and Arizona (50/1) are the two longest shots to win it all.
