Odds to Win the 2009 NCAA Tournament

Written March 16, 2009 by Jack Jones

North Carolina BasketballWith the brackets already set, it’s time to take a look at the odds to win the 2009 NCAA tournament courtesy of BetUS.  If you are looking to bet on the closing games, a $500 deposit at BetUS will net you a $500 signup bonus.  This is a great sportsbook to do college basketball betting at and comes highly recommended by our staff.

Favorites – The leader in the college basketball odds is North Carolina at +300.  This team has been a favorite all year long so it’s no surprise they are among the teams with the lowest odds now.  Behind UNC is Pittsburgh at +450, then Louisville at +500.  The other No. 1 seed, Connecticut is listed at +700 while Memphis is at +800.  If you want to bet on Duke you’ll find the odds at +1300, with Oklahoma and Syracuse both at +1500.  Michigan State isn’t far behind with their odds set at +1600.

Darkhorses – Several other teams will give you 20-to-1 or better on your investment if they end up the champions, starting with Wake Forest at +2000, followed by Gonzaga at +2500.  Kansas and Villanova are both listed at +3000, while Missouri, Purdue, and UCLA are all close behind at +3500.

Outside Shots – If you are feeling like taking a big risk then there are some quality teams getting some lottery-esque odds.  Big payouts can be had by backing a pair of Pac-10 teams in Washington and Arizona State at +4000.  Florida State, West Virginia, and Marquette are all listed at +5000.  There there is Clemson at +6000, Xavier and Texas at +8000, Utah, Illinois, Boston College, Cal, Oklahoma State, LSU, Tennessee, USC, Arizona, and Wisconsin at +10000.  The schools listed at +20,000 are Ohio State, Texas A&M, Butler, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia Commonwealth, Mississippi State, and Temple.  Western Kentucky and BYU round out our outside shots at +30,000.

The Real Longshots – If you are a real gambler and want to take the chance at the huge payout, then here are the teams that the books are giving real long odds on.  At +50,000 there is Siena, Dayton, and Utah State.   Then we move all the way up to +100,000 with teams like UNI, Cleveland State, Portland State, Akron, North Dakota State, American, Cornell, and Stephen F. Austin.  At +150,000 are Robert Morris, Binghamton, CS Northridge and Morgan State.  Rounding out the list and being given almost no chance are the 16 seeds, who have never even beaten a No. 1 seed before: Eastern Tennessee State, Radford, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Alabama State, and Morehead State with odds of +250,000.
