2009 World Series Odds

world-series-oddsThe start of the baseball is less than a week away and fans everywhere are getting ready for another season of profitable baseball betting.  Maybe you want to get in on the action, or maybe you just want to see how the experts out in the desert think your team will do by looking at the posted baseball odds for each team to win the World Series.

Even with some off the field troubles this past off-season involving Alex Rodriguez’s steroid use, interest in Major League Baseball remains at a high level.  BetUS spokesman Reed Richards, “Interest in America’s pastime is alive and well.  Fans are flooding to our site for up to the minute predictions and prognostications.  We’ve got everything from early World Series odds, to which coach will be fired first.”

The first category they have posted numbers for is a little goofy: which MLB player will shave his head first.  I don’t know who would take this seriously and throw down, but the leader here is David Ortiz at 3/2, with Johnny Damon listed at 2/1 and Manny Ramirez at 3/1.  Interesting how all three players have Red Sox ties from that first title a few years ago.

Now for the World Series winner.  The favorites are the New York Yankees (9/2), the Boston Red Sox (11/2), the Chicago Cubs (8/1), the New York Mets (8/1) and the Los Angeles Angels (10/1).  There is a little drop off after the top five with the defending champion Philadelphia Phillies (14/1), Tampa Bay Rays (14/1), LA Dodgers (15/1), Arizona Diamondbacks (18/1), Cleveland Indians (20/1), and the Detroit Tigers (20/1).  Things drop off quite a bit after that with the Minnesota Twins (25/1), Atlanta Braves (30/1), Chicago White Sox (30/1), St. Louis Cardinals (30/1), and the Oakland A’s (35/1).  Some of the longer shots that might still have a chance are the Toronto Blue Jays (40/1), Florida Marlins (40/1), Milwaukee Brewers (40/1), San Francisco Giants (40/1), Houston Astros (45/1), Colorado Rockies (50/1), Cincinnati Reds (55/1), and the Texas Rangers (60/1).  The bottom of the barrel teams are the Kansas City Royals (80/1), Seattle Mariners (100/1), San Diego Padres (100/1), Baltimore Orioles (120/1), Washington Nationals (150/1), and Pittsburgh Pirates (200/1).
