Ohio at Bowling Green Spread

The Ohio Bobcats travel to face the Bowling Green Falcons Wednesday in a crucial MAC showdown. The Bobcats sit atop the MAC East division standings with a half-game lead on Temple, and a full game lead on both Kent State and Miami (Ohio). They control their own destiny and are in great shape to play for a conference title, barring a setback this week. Ohio has won their last two meetings with Bowling Green, including a 49-25 home victory last season. Despite the lopsided result, they were actually outgained 380-415 by the Falcons. Quarterback Matt Schilz threw for 277 yards and two touchdowns for Bowling Green.

If you are looking to place a wager on this game, then you will find a line of Ohio -7 over Bowling Green.

Ohio

The Bobcats have won three straight to put themselves in excellent position to play for a MAC title. Ohio (7-3, 4-2 MAC) is coming off a 43-28 road victory at Central Michigan last Thursday. They improved to 3-2 away from home with the victory. Star quarterback Tyler Tettleton threw for 218 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for another score.

Ohio outgained CMU 527-427 for the game as they racked up 309 yards on the ground. Chippewas’ quarterback Ryan Radcliff had a big game, throwing for 362 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough. Beau Blankenship led the way on the gruond for the Bobcats, rushing for 129 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries. Ryan Boykin chipped in 91 yards on 16 attempts.

This is one of the better teams in the country when you just look at statistics alone. Ohio ranks 18th in the FBS in total offense (464.2 yards/game) and 31st in total defense (342.8 yards/game). Tettleton is clearly one of the best quarterbacks in the conference. He is completing 63.1 percent of his passes for 2,445 yards with 22 touchdowns to six interceptions. Donte Harden leads the team in rushing with 725 yards and two touchdowns. LaVon Brazil is their stud receiver with 48 catches for 862 yards and nine touchdowns.

Bowling Green

After a fast 3-1 start, the Falcons have dropped five of their last six. Bowling Green (4-6, 2-4 MAC) is now just one loss shy of being eliminated from bowl contention. It’s going to be Senior Night for the Falcons, so they’ll have plenty of reason to be motivated heading into this one. If they find a way to win Wednesday, they would be playing to become bowl eligible next week as they close out their season with a road game against lowly Buffalo.

Bowling Green gets an extra two days to prepare for Ohio as they last played on Tuesday, November 8th. The Falcons were beat in every way imaginable in a 14-45 home loss to MAC West-leading Northern Illinois. They were outgained 623-334 for the game while allowing 340 passing yards and 283 rushing yards to the Huskies. Shilz went 22 of 38 passing for 255 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions for the Falcons. This was a 24-14 game at the half before NIU outscored BGSU 21-0 after intermission.

The Falcons rank 59th in the land in total offense (391.2 yards/game) and 79th in total defense (408.0 yards/game). Their biggest weakness is a run defense (200.0 yards/game) that ranks 96th in the FBS. Schilz has been a bright spot on this team, completing 60.1 percent of his passes for 2,556 yards with 21 touchdowns to 10 interceptions. His go-to receiver is Kamar Jorden, who has team highs in receptions (67), yards (928) and touchdowns (9). Anthon Samuel has rushed for 700 yards and four touchdowns while averaging a whopping 6.0/carry.
