Indiana vs Ohio State Football Predictions
Written September 30, 2009 by Kyle Hunter
The Ohio State Buckeyes travel to Bloomington to take on the Indiana Hoosiers under the lights this Saturday evening. The Buckeyes fan base will likely account for quite a bit of the seating so don’t expect too hostile of a crowd for the visiting team in this one. Both teams enter this game with one loss on the season, but the Buckeyes are certainly the clear favorites to win this matchup.
The Ohio State Buckeyes defeated Illinois 30-0 last week by dominating the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. The defense has now shut out their opposition in two straight games and is proving to be the real strength of the team. The defense will be without senior star Kurt Coleman, who is suspended for this game because of a helmet to helmet hit in last weekend’s game. The real strength of the defense has been up front with Doug Worthington and Cameron Heyward clogging up the middle, and Thaddeus Gibson rushing from the corner. The offense seems to be getting better, at least in the ground game. Boom Herron and Brandon Saine provide a nice tailback duo for the Buckeyes. Terrelle Pryor has shown some glimpses of greatness, but continues to show poor decision making at times, something that must improve for the Buckeyes to beat the best of the teams in the country.

The Indiana Hoosiers were very close to being 4-0 on the season. They led most of the game last weekend at Michigan, but ended up falling 36-33 in the Big House. Indiana was 21 point underdogs in that game so they clearly surprised the betting world by actually outplaying the Wolverines for most of the game. The Hoosiers have gotten pretty solid play from the line so far this season, which has allowed quarterback Ben Chappell to throw for 944 yards. Darius Willis is emerging as a very nice freshman running back for the team. Willis had 152 yards on just 16 carries at Michigan. The Hoosiers defense is definitely still a weak spot. The defense has allowed 25.3 points per game in their last 3 games and is particularly vulnerable against the pass.
The Buckeyes are 17 point favorites in this matchup according to the latest college football spreads. In their last four games at Bloomington the Buckeyes are 4-0 against the spread. The Buckeyes are also 19-7 in their last 26 road games overall. This Indiana football team is definitely better than most analysts were projecting before the season, but one has to wonder if they can keep up with the Buckeyes in the trenches to make this a close game. Expect Ohio State to establish a solid running game and then maybe hit a deep pass or two on offense. When Indiana has the ball it will be crucial that the Hoosiers protect the quarterback or this game will be over quickly. The Buckeyes will have plenty of crowd support and they are the much deeper team, so I have to think that the Buckeyes will likely cover the spread in this one.
