College Football Odds: Ohio State at Penn State

Written November 3, 2009 by Rock Henderson

The match-up between the Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions on paper before the season got underway was a marquee game that would most likely determine the Big 10 champion. Each team comes into Saturday with one loss and a second would dash any hope they have left of playing in the Rose Bowl. If Ohio State can pull of the huge road win, they will control their own destiny to earn a trip to Pasadena. Penn State will need some help as they will lose a head-to-head tiebreaker against Iowa. The Nittany Lions are a 4 point favorite according to our most recent NCAA football betting odds.

Buckeye fans don’t hesitate to criticize their head coach or players when they hit a bump in the road. They were calling for Terrelle Pryor’s starting position after a 26-18 loss at Purdue. Head coach Jim Tressel took his place on the hot seat also after the media killed him for his conservative play calling. Ohio State has bounced back with two straight wins after the Purdue debacle and can get back into the Big Ten title picture with a win Saturday. Pryor has picked up his play, accounting for almost 600 yards of total offense in his last two outings and cutting down on the turnovers. He leads the team in rushing and is much more skilled in that area compared to his passing capabilities as those are still developing. RB Brandon Saine is second on the team in rushing and carries most of the load behind Pryor. He is averaging 5 yards per carry and can break a big run at anytime. DeVier Posey has turned himself into a very good wide receiver and has caught 43 balls for 595 yards with six going for a touchdown. The OSU defense is allowing just 11.7 ppg, but will face a great challenge against the dynamic Penn State offense.  Get a $500 match bonus with a new account and $500 or more deposit with BetUS that you can use to do all of your NCAA football betting this season.

Iowa eliminated Penn State from the national title picture for the second year in a row with a road win in Happy Valley. The Nittany Lions could have folded after that loss, but have run off five straight victories leading up to their battle with OSU. QB Daryll Clark is in line to earn player of the year in the Big Ten if he keeps up his play. The senior signal caller has thrown for 2158 yards and 18 touchdowns. He is completing over 63% of his passes and spreading the ball around to his array of offensive weapons. RB Evan Royster is definitely one of those said weapons. Royster has ran for 859 yards and found pay dirt five times while gaining almost six yards per attempt. As good as the Ohio State defense is, Penn State might trump it with overall talent. They only allow 9 ppg and are led by All-American tackling machine Sean Lee. Joe Paterno’s chances of winning titles are dwindling and a loss here would send Penn State to a Jan 1st bowl game, but not the one they had their eyes set on.

Ohio State proved in their loss at Purdue that they are vulnerable on the road. The jury is still out on Terrelle Pryor while Penn State QB Daryll Clark has asserted himself as one of the top signal callers in the nation. Happy Valley will be loud and raucous. Both defenses are real good, but expect the phantom phenomenon Pryor to make more mistakes that lead to points. Play: Penn State -4
