Oklahoma State at Kansas

This Saturday the No.10 Oklahoma State Cowboys will look to stay on top the Big 12 South when they go on the road to take on the Kansas Jayhawks. The Cowboys come in off an impressive 33-16 win over Texas for their third straight win, while the Jayhawks fell to Nebraska 20-3 for their fifth loss in their last six games. Kansas snapped a five game losing streak against Oklahoma State with a 43-28 win back in 2007, but it doesn’t appear likely that they make it two in a row, as the current odds have the Cowboys favored by 24 points over the Jayhawks.

Oklahoma State (9-1, 5-1 Big 12): The Cowboys offense racked up 308 yards of total offense to take a 26-3 lead at half against Texas last week, scoring on five of their seven possessions. The Cowboys added another touchdown to make it 33-6 late in the third to put the game out of reach. If the Cowboys can win at Kansas this week and then take care of Oklahoma next week, they will win their first ever Big 12 South title.

Quarterback Brandon Weeden threw for 409 yards on 29 of 43 passing with one touchdown and one interception. Weeden’s lone touchdown toss went to wide out Justin Blackmon on a 67 yard pass and catch. Blackmon finished with nine catches for 145 yards, and now has 84 receptions for 1,430 yards and 16 touchdowns. Kendall Hunter also had a nice game, rushing for 116 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries. When these three have it going the Cowboys are nearly unstoppable on the offensive side of the ball.

Kansas doesn’t figure to pose much of a threat in this one defensively, as they come in ranked 90th in the country in total defense, allowing just under 414 yards of total offense a game. The Jayhawks have already allowed the opposing team to score at least 45 points in four games this season.

Kansas (3-7, 1-5 Big 12): It was hard to imagine that the Jayhawks pulled off a 28-point fourth quarterback comeback against Colorado the previous week, after the offensive performance they put on display last week against Nebraska. Kansas managed just 87 yards of total offense for the entire game.

The Jayhawks offense should have a little easier time moving the football this week, but with no offensive weapons to speak of, its hard to imagine Kansas has any chance of keeping this one close. The Cowboys are ranked 84th in the country, allowing just under 308 yards a game, but have only allowed more than 28 points in three games this season.

Looking at the Odds: The only reason Nebraska won by just 17 last week, is because they were really limiting Taylor Martinez, who is dealing with an ankle injury. The Cowboys should score just about every time they touch the ball in the first half, and I see no reason why you don’t take Oklahoma State to cover the spread in this one. My final score prediction is Oklahoma State 51, Kansas 17.
