Oklahoma State vs. Texas Tech Betting Odds & Spread

Written November 4, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Professional handicapper Jason Lowry has his NCAA FOOTBALL 10 STAR GAME OF THE WEEK going in this one, as he has a big time system putting one team at a huge advantage in this one.

The Big 12 is at it again, as it seems each and every week there has been a big game that has put two top 10 teams against each other, and this week is no different, as the No.2 ranked Texas Tech Red Raiders look to stay atop the Big 12 North with a win over No. 8 ranked Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Cowboys come off a huge win over Iowa State, as they beat up on the Cyclones 59-17, but the real story of last week was the Red Raiders taking down then No. 1 ranked Texas Longhorns in one of the best games of the season. The oddsmakers think this one will go down to the wire, as Texas Tech comes in just 3 point favorites at home over Oklahoma State at Bookmaker.com

Now there is no question that Oklahoma State has the talent to come into Lubbock, Texas and pull off the upset, but they are going to have to put on a show on the offensive side of things, as it doesn’t look like there is anyone standing in the way of Texas Tech’s offense. The Cowboys have scored 50 or more points 5 times this season, and to think they can’t do it again would be wrong. Quarterback Zac Robinson has already racked up over 2,000 yards and 20 touchdowns through the air, and running back Kendall Hunter has over 1,200 on the ground. Receiver Dez Bryant has put up some big time numbers this season, as he has caught 15 of the teams 20 touchdowns in the passing game, and has already passed the 1,000 yard mark. This offense has to keep pace, and hope that its enough to come out on top in the end.

The Cowboys defense isn’t going to have a good day in this one, as you just can’t expect this unit to go on the road and stop a Red Raiders offense that has scored 35 or more points in every game this season. The key for any upset is the defense creating turnovers and not giving up the big plays, but we think if Oklahoma State can just turn a couple turnovers into points and limit the big plays it will be enough to keep this one close. Now we get to the Red Raiders and a team still lacking the respect it deserves, but if this team can sweep their two games against Oklahoma State and Oklahoma its shot at playing for the National Championship will likely be in the future. Graham Harrell made a big move in the Heisman race after his performance last week, and its hard to argue about a guy who could reach the 4,000 yard passing mark this week. The Red Raiders have really added a solid running game to their attack, as they racked up 105 on the ground against Texas last week. Besides Harrell there is no question the next big thing in a Red Raiders uniform is wide receiver Michael Crabtree, who will likely surpass the 1,000 yard mark this week and add to his 15 touchdown total.

The Red Raiders defense isn’t going to win any awards for the best defense this season, but they did a great job last week keeping Texas in check early and allowing the offense to build up a 22-6 lead before the Longhorns got things clicking. Its going to be another tough week for this unit, and you have to hope if you are Texas Tech fan that this unit doesn’t have a huge let down after the big game against Texas last week.
