Options for LT in 2010
Written January 26, 2010 by Jason Lowry
According to Tim Sullivan of the San Diego Union-Tribune the San Diego Chargers will let future Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson go before he earns a $3 million roster bonus in March. Tomlinson appears to recognize that he will no longer be with the team he has spent his entire NFL career with, but the back still believes that he can make a Pro Bowl or two before he hangs it up for good.
For the first time in his career Tomlinson failed to rush for 1,000 yards, as he had just 730 yards. Tomlinson however had 12 rushing touchdowns, fifth best of all running backs last season. So while we won’t see the monster seasons that we grown accustomed to with Tomlinson, there seems to still be a little left in the tank.
It seems very unlikely that Tomlinson will retire, but that is an option. There will likely be a number of teams that will go after Tomlinson this offseason if he is let go by the Chargers. Tomlinson has that ability to get the ball in the endzone, and there are plenty of teams that could use him in short yardage situations. Keep a close eye on where Tomlinson ends up, as it will have a big impact on that teams NFL odds next season.
