College Football Odds: Oregon vs Boise State
Written September 3, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Oregon Ducks open the 2009 season on the blue turf at Boise State which is set up to be a very intense showdown. The main hurdle this Oregon team will face is how they will get over the loss of star running back Jeremiah Johnson who rushed for 1,201 yards and 13 TDS last season. Now, senior LeGarrette Blount is no slouch as he put up 1,002 rushing yards and 17 TDs last season himself. However, taking on the full workload is a whole different ball game. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is back after getting knocked out with an injury last season, how he will bounce back will be interesting to see without his starting RB from the 2008 campaign. The star power doesn’t end with the loss of Johnson, the Ducks will be missing #1 WR Terrence Scott who collected 751 receiving yards and 5 TDs. So they will have their work cut out for them on the offensive end, on the defensive side they remain junior and Senior heavy with a ton of talent and experience. Coach Chip Kelly has not been shy about talking of the importance this game brings. Last season Oregon fell 37-32 to the Broncos at home. Tonight they MUST get a big game from running back Legarrette Blount as the passing game might take some time to gel. Senior corner back Walter Thurmond III is this teams main defensive force as he’s collected 10 INTs over the last two season. Tonight, against an offense machine he will need to have big plays which is something he is certainly capable of. The NCAA football odds for tonight’s game have Boise State as 3 point favorites over Oregon, with a total set for a hefty 65 points.
The Boise State Broncos open their season against a competitor that is more then capable of beating them on their home field. After beating the Ducks in Oregon last season, you know they’ll be eager to get back onto the field and earse those memories. For Boise State they return now sophomore sensation quarterback in Kellen Moore who put up 3,486 passing yards last season while throwing for 25 touchdown passes. Boise State losses running back Ian Johnson who no doubt has left his mark on this team noted for proposing to his girlfriend on the sideline of the 2007 upset bowl win over Oklahoma. Austin Pettis takes over as the #1 WR and has looked impressive this off season while Jeremy Avery is now the every down running back. So this offense will be ready to explode tonight at home in the college football main game opener. On the defensive end the Broncos do not have a lot of experience. They field a starting defensive unit filled with sophomores and juniors that will be facing a potent yet inexperienced unit in Oregon’s offensive attack. Looking ahead, if the Broncos win this game an undefeated season is not just possible, but very much likely. Coach Chris Peterson has his squad focused on this one game, he has a major edge with his offense going up against an Oregon secondary that is weak overall. If Boise State plans on being victorious tonight they will need Kellen Moore to be under control and play with intensity. Show a sense of emotion early on to get your teammates and the crowd pumped up. We will see how this plays out.
