Oregon Boise State Odds

Written August 31, 2009 by Rock Henderson

Oregon Boise State1* – Rock’s first total play of the 2009 College Football season is going to let you sit back and watch an offensive shootout on a late Thursday night game. In one of the more intriguing match ups this week, the #14 Oregon Ducks travel to the vaunted blue turf to take on the #16 Boise St Broncos. The Ducks used a balanced attack last year to run up 470 yards of total offense against the Broncos only to lost the game 37-32 at home. Kellen Moore, the second year QB for Boise St, returns after lighting up the Oregon secondary in 2008 for a ridiculous 386 yards through the air as a freshman. While both teams teams lose some key parts of last year’s offense, both defenses will have just as many new faces to try to adapt to the spread offense that both sport.  If you plan on betting on football this year, then check out the $500 in FREE bonus money BetUS offers our readers!

Jeremiah Masoli takes the keys to Oregon’s offense again in 2009 after totaling for 2400 yards and 23 touchdowns as a sophomore last year. The Ducks will be breaking in two new coordinators, but offensive genius Chip Kelly takes over as head coach. The system will remain the same with his presence even with a new offensive coordinator so the Rock doesn’t believe that the offense will take a step back with a new play caller. LeGarrette Blount gained over 1000 yards in 2008 while sharing carries with Jeremiah Johnson. In only 137 attempts last year, Blount ran for 17 touchdowns. The Broncos got hit for 32 points against Oregon last year with a much more experienced defense than they will bring to the table in 09. The Broncos will have to break in a new trio of linebackers and the defensive line will be the most inexperinced in some time which leaves big question marks as to how they will counter the rushing attack of Oregon. We expect Oregon to surpass last year’s point total on the fast track of Bronco Statium because of these factors.

Oregon’s top two defensive backs from 2008 are gone. First year defensive coordinator Jerry Azzinaro has the task of slowing down Kellen Moore and a Boise State offense that always seems to move the ball at will. These two factors alone make the Rock a believer that the Broncos will be hitting for big plays through the air and on the ground again. Running back Ian Johnson has moved onto the NFL, but Junior Jeremy Avery saw considerable playing time in 2008. This playmaker has a chance to take it for 6 everytime he touches the ball. The offense goes as Moore goes though and no Freshman was more impressive in their first year than him.

Both offenses were hit hard by graduation and early entry into the NFL draft. The Rock plays the edge to the offensive side of the ball, however, as both teams seem to reload every year with talented players plugged into proven systems. We will play the over and head into Saturday with some momentum!

Rock will be breaking down the college football spreads for several big games each week and this is the only place you will find his expert football picks.
