Oregon at USC Football Betting Lines

No doubt the USC Trojans will have revenge on their minds when they take on the Oregon State Beavers this Saturday evening. Last year it was the Beavers who ruined USC and their quest for a national title in their shocking upset of the then title favorite Trojans. It’s a new year and there are a lot of new faces on both sides, but you can bet that emotions will be very high in this game.
The Oregon State Beavers come into this matchup at 4-2 on the season, but their losses have come to two good football teams. The Beavers were impressive in their last game in handling Stanford quite easily. Jacquizz Rodgers, the man primarily responsible for last year’s shocking upset of USC, is once again the main feature of their offense. Rodgers is averaging 5.4 yards per carry and has 13 touchdowns already this season. His older brother James is the top pass catcher for the Beavers, so between the two the Rodgers brothers are a very potent duo. Sean Canfield has done a nice job at quarterback this year, completing 68% of his passes and throwing for 1,413 yards already this season. The Oregon State defense is very strong against the run, but they have had a lot of trouble against strong passing attacks this season. The Beavers allow just 98 yards per game on the ground, but allow 275 through the air. The USC Trojans have had close calls in their prime time matchups this season, with a last minute win over Ohio State and Notre Dame. The one blemish on their schedule was a last second loss at Washington. Matt Barkley has done a very solid job quarterbacking this team despite the fact that he is a true freshman. Barkley hasn’t been asked to carry the load, until last game versus Notre Dame, when he threw for 380 yards. Joe McKnight is the team’s top play maker and the Trojans get him the ball in any way possible. McKnight is averaging 6.4 yards per carry and also has 12 receptions on the season. The defense of USC has been spectacular this season. They are allowing only 11.7 points per game and a minuscule 68 yards on the ground per game. The defense has stepped up and made plays when they need to, and that defense is a real asset for USC as they move forward.
The USC Trojans are listed as 20.5 point home favorites according to the college football betting lines in this Pac 10 battle. On paper that looks like a pretty big number to cover against a team with as much talent as Oregon State. Oregon State is 5-1 against the spread in their last 6 games on the road and 11-4 against the spread in their last 15 overall. Oregon State is just 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 games at USC.
It will be the USC stout defense against Jacquizz Rodgers and the Beavers rushing attack that will be key in this one. Expect USC to force Sean Canfield to beat them throwing the ball. USC should be able to make enough plays on offense to win this one, but it might be closer than some would expect.
