Packers at Steelers NFL Betting Lines

The Green Bay Packers and the Pittsburgh Steelers are two teams headed in different directions right now. Green Bay has righted the ship over the last few weeks and is solid shape to make the playoffs, while Pittsburgh has lost 5 in a row and now they are a long shot to make the playoffs. Just five short weeks ago it was Green Bay who had lost to Tampa Bay and Pittsburgh who had beaten Denver on the road. Since then it has been five straight wins for Green Bay and 5 straight losses for Pittsburgh. These two storied franchises will collide in a big game Sunday afternoon. Who will step up this weekend? The Green Bay Packers showed a lot of potential through the first eight weeks, but it has been the last five where they have been very consistent. The Packers have a nice balance of a strong offense and very impressive defensive. Aaron Rodgers is the leader for the offense and Rodgers is having a huge season. Rodgers has thrown 25 touchdowns and just interceptions on the season and leads an offense that averages 26.5 points per game. Donald Driver and Greg Jennings are both solid targets at the wide receiver spot and Jermichael Finley has emerged as a very good tight end. Ryan Grant and the running game for the Packers started out slowly, but recently Grant has done much better. Just last weekend Grant averaged 6.8 yards per carry against the Bears. The defense ranks #2 in total yards allowed and they force turnovers at an amazing rate. Led by the veteran Charles Woodson, this is a ball hawking defense that is very dangerous and can wreak havoc on opposing offenses.
The Steelers were certainly expected to be better than they have been this season after their Super Bowl win a year ago. A myriad of problems has hurt the Steelers, but the lack of a consistent running game and too many turnovers have been frequent problems of late for Pittsburgh. A running game that ranks 16th in the NFL in yards per game isn’t Steelers football, and the lack of balance in the offense has hurt them in recent games. Ben Roethlisberger has had a solid season, but he has often been asked to do too much, which has resulted in 11 interceptions and a lot of sacks. The threesome of Hines Ward, Heath Miller, and Santonio Holmes provide a great trio of targets for Big Ben and the pass offense. Injuries have depleted this team of late and the loss of Aaron Smith and Troy Polamalu has really hurt the defense. The defense is giving up just 18.8 points per game, but several times this year they have allowed scores when they could have sealed a victory.
The NFL odds for this weekend show Pittsburgh a small 2 point favorite in this match up. The posted total is set at 41 points. Those making NFL picks this weekend should remember that the over is 49-22-2 in Pittsburgh’s last 73 home games.
There is no doubt the Steelers are out of the playoff picture with a loss in this game, while Green Bay needs to keep winning to try to get home field advantage in the playoffs. Both rushing offenses have had struggles this season and both defenses are tough against the run. I expect that the team who does a better job of keeping a solid balance in their offense will come out on top in a tightly contested game.
