Green Bay Packers vs. St Louis Rams Week 3 NFL Predictions
Written September 25, 2009 by Jason Lowry
This Sunday the Green Bay Packers will travel to St. Louis to take on the Rams in week 3 of NFL action. Last week the Packers suffered their first loss of the season, as they fell to the Cincinnati Bengals at home 24-31. The Rams also loss last week, and dating back to last season have now lost 12 straight regular season games. For those of you looking to do some NFL betting on the game this Sunday, current NFL odds have the Packers 6.5 point favorites over the Rams.
Packers Preview: This will be the first road contest for the Packers this season, and after the surprise loss to the Bengals last week, this becomes about as close as it gets to a must win game. The Packers have to travel to Minnesota next week, and they can’t afford to fall behind by too many games behind the Vikings in the NFC North. After the Packers did a pretty good job at stopping the Bears rushing attack in week 1, they allowed former Bears running back Cedric Benson to run for 141 yards. That defense did record 2 more interceptions, including one by Charles Woodson for a touchdown, but they also allowed Carson Palmer to throw for 3 touchdowns. On offense the Packers running game continued to struggle, as Ryan Grant had just 46 yards on 14 carries. Also worth noting was quarterback Aaron Rodgers inability to hook up with wide out Greg Jennings, who somehow managed to not catch a ball last week. The offensive line has looked absolutely horrible in the first two games. Last week the Packers gave up 6 sacks, and 5 of them came from defensive end Antwan Odom. If the offensive line doesn’t get better fast, this team is going to struggle to win games all season long. Bet the Packers -6.5 to win at Sportsbook.com.
Rams Preview: The Rams have to feel like this is a very winnable game for them this weekend. They nearly upset the Redskins last week, as they lost in a defensive battle 7-9. The problem is the Rams have not been able to do much of anything on offense this season, as the 7 points they scored last week is all they have scored all season. Marc Bulger was just 15-28 for 125 yards and a score, but its not all his fault, as the Rams don’t have much of a threat in the receiving game. Running back Steven Jackson ran pretty well against a good Redskins defense, as he racked up 104 yards on 17 carries, and I look for him to repeat that success this weekend, and possibly even add a score or two. The Packers are going to score points, and if the offense struggles this game will likely be out of reach early. Bet the Rams +6.5 to win at Sportsbook.com.
Predicted Score: Packers 28 Rams 10
