Green Bay Packers vs. Tennessee Titans NFL Spread & Odds

Written October 31, 2008 by Jason Lowry

Editors Note: Jason Lowry has a big play going on the winner in this one, as its part of his complete NFL week 9 package. Also, be sure to check out all our great plays going this weekend in the NFL and NCAA.

This week we get a pretty interesting matchup between the only undefeated team left in the Tennessee Titans and the Green Bay Packers, as both teams are coming off big wins over the Colts. Last week the Titans used a late surge to pull away from the Colts, and two weeks ago the Packers took care of business against the Colts 34-14 at home. Now the Packers come off a bye week, so look for them to come out strong in this one, but the oddsmakers still give the edge to the Titans, as they come in 5.5 point favorites over the Packers at BetUS.com

The Packers have played pretty well on the road this season going 2-1, but those wins came against the Lions and Seahawks. There were a lot of question surrounding this team after they lost 3 straight, but with their 2 recent wins, it looks like this team is once again primed for a run at the NFC North division title. Aaron Rodgers didn’t go off against the Colts as he threw for just 186 yards and a score, but it seemed every time he dropped back he was hitting the open guy. Ryan Grant did the bulk of the work for the offense, carrying it 31 times for 105 yards and a score. This week it will be more on Rodgers shoulders, as the Titans really make it tough to run the football.

The Packers defense was a big part of their most recent win, as they had two interceptions returned for touchdowns, as they really controlled Peyton Manning and the Colts passing game. What makes this so impressive is the Packers went into that game pretty much depleted on this side of the ball, and coming off a bye week, there might not have been a unit that needed the week off more than the Packers defense. Look for them to keep this one close, but if they want to win they have to find a way to slow down the Titans rushing offense. Bet Green Bay +5.5 at BetUS.com

Speaking of that Titans rushing attack, they continue to lead the league averaging over 190 yards a game. Last week against the Colts the duo of Chris Johnson and LenDale White combined for just 90 yards as the Colts really slowed down the Titans attack, but they did combine for 3 scores. Kerry Collins played one of his best games this season as, he made some big time passes, and kept from giving the ball to the other team. The Packers are giving up nearly 145 yards on the ground, which should be good news for this attack to get right back on track with big games from both their star running backs.

The Titans defense also gave Peyton Manning problems, as they too picked off two of his passes. The defense made two big 4th down stops that wound up leading to points, and really came up big when they needed to. The Titans allowed just 93 yards on the ground, and were tough as nails when it came to running it on short yardage. The Packers offense will likely pose a little more threat this weekend based on their play of late, but a lot will have to go their way if they plan on being the first to knock off the Titans.
