Adrian Gonzalez set a record last night going 6-6 in a nine inning game. That was the most hits by any Padres hitter in a nine inning final. Kevin Kouzmanoff and Chase Headley are hoping for big second half seasons to prove to management that they are very useful every day players.. Youngsters like Kyle Blanks, Tony Gwynn Jr.and Everth Cabrera will certainly get their fair chance to prove what they are capable of. On the mound tonight for SD is Kevin Correia, he is 7-9 with a 4.51 ERA on the season. On the road this season he has posted a 4-5 record with a 5..17 ERA. Correia against Milwaukee this season is 0-1 with a 4.26 ERA.. This ball club has a ton of young players who are looking to make statements. That is what the second half will be about, proof of ability. It is clear that as of this second they do not have enough pitching nor hitting to scare teams, however they will have plenty of opportunities to be dream killers for playoff contenders. Today’s MLB odds have the Brewers as -138 money line favorites over the Padres, and the total is set at 9 runs.

The Brew Crew are 55-57 on the season which says only one thing, disappointment. With one of the best two player combos in Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder, you’d think the Milwaukee would be better. Braun has 22 homers and 79 RBIs while hitting .316 from the plate. Prince leads the team with 27 homers and 98 RBIs as he is having a brilliant season. The problem resides after these two. Corey Hart, Mike Cameron and JJ Hardy have not lived up to expectations this season. Inconsistency is what has been the case and the Brewers will go 3-4 games scoring below 4 runs and then explode for 8-10 on any given day. On the mound tonight is Carlos Villanueva who has been anything but successful this season. He is 2-9 with a 6.05 ERA combining his numbers as a starter and relief pitcher. He faces San Diego tonight, in his only start against the Padres this season he went 5 innings allowing no runs and only 2 hits. A good performance is not out of the question tonight for Carlos, however, if Milwaukee doesn’t hit then it won’t matter. Ryan Braun and Prince Fielder may need to get red hot if this team has any chance of making the playoffs. Manager Ken Macha will certainly be on the hot seat come this off-season if they do not get into October baseball and right now, it is certainly looking that way.
