MLB Predictions: San Diego Padres at LA Dodgers

Written June 9, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

padres-dodgers-odds-060909The Padres are 27-30 and when broken down look like they couldn’t beat the best collegiate teams in the nation. After Adrian Gonzalez who is a flat out stud, they have nobody that could be counted on worth a lick. Adrian has 22 home runs and 43 RBIs. It has come to a point where teams have started to walk him to load the bases with only one out in the inning. Kevin Kouzmanoff would be the next threat (if you call it that) with five home runs and 25 RBIs hitting .224 from the plate.. The pitching has been on and off this year. Tonight, starter Chris Young takes the mound as he has gone 4-4 this year with a 4.46 ERA. Young has much more talent then those stats show. He has also pitched great against the Dodgers this year so far going 1-0 in two starts with 2.08 ERA. Expect him to have a repeat dominant performance. However, it won’t mean a thing unless his teammates can help him out and put some runs on the board. The x-factor tonight will be Tony Gwynn Jr. He must get on base and help manufacture runs.  Today’s MLB odds show have the Dodgers listed as -195 favorites over the Padres with an over/under of 7.5 runs.

The Dodgers are 39-20 on the year and if you ask me, have not lost a step with out Manny. They are fresh off key come back wins against Philadelphia in their last series. Juan Pierre continues to take advantage of Manny’s absence as Loney and Ethier have been clutch all year long. Stats are spread out here as Kemp, Loney, Ethier, Blake and Hudson all have provided 25+ RBIs while Russell Martin has been great in the field. Tonight ace Chad Billingsley takes the mound to show off his all star stuff. He is 7-3 with a 2.59 ERA. In his two starts against San Diego this season he is 2-0 with a 2.77 ERA holding the Padres as a team to a .140 batting average. They also get San Diego coming off a series against Arizona where they had an 18 inning game. Dodgers in a big way tonight.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: San Diego are 6-18 in their last 24 Tuesday games. The Padres are 17-36 in their last 53 road games. The Dodgers are 43-17 in their last 60 games as a favorite. Any questions?

Jordan’s Picks: Los Angeles Dodgers -1.5 Runs (+115)
