Baseball Predictions: San Diego Padres at San Francisco Giants

Written July 10, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

padres-giants-picks-071009The Pads are 35-50 on the season and are currently in the midst of a five game losing streak. They have perhaps the worst hitting team You’ll ever see. After all star first baseman Adrian Gonzalez who has 24 homers and 52 RBIs, the rest of these jokers are not even mediocre. Kevin Kouzmanoff has never lived up to the billing and this year is yet another disappointing stat line to date as his .241 BA and 11 homers are not what the Pads expect. Chase Headley and David Eckstein are the only other two players who can be looked upon as a semi threat. On the mound tonight for San Diego is Josh Banks who is making his third start of the year. His 1-0 record and 5.60 ERA is not an indication of his talent. Banks got lit up in his last start against the Dodgers but in his previous start he went seven strong innings against Houston. Last season in three starts against San Francisco he went 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA as he allowed only two earned runs in 19 innings of work. Banks owns this team. Expect a shut down performance tonight and for Chase Headley to have a good game. Although they stink of something awful, the Padres are getting great value tonight.  The Giants are currently listed as -148 favorites over the Padres according to today’s MLB odds.

The San Francisco Giants are coming off yet another Tim Lincecum win last night. With a 47-38 record, they will continue to make a push for the NL Wildcard it seems and perhaps they will get it in the end due to their two headed monster in Lincy and Cain. Their hitting is atrocious overall as I have said all year long. Since jump street I have been very critical of this teams lineup. Pablo Sandoval is hitting .328 with 13 home runs and 50 RBIs while catcher Bengie Molina has 11 homers and 50 RBIs himself but has a poor .264 BA. Aaron Rowand is decent as he has collected nine home runs and 37 RBIs on the year. After those three they are all poor in a big way. Ishikawa, Renteria, Randy Winn and Nate Schierholtz are all very easy to game plan against. The pitcher for the Giants tonight will be Jonathan Sanchez who is just miserable. His 2-8 record and 5.30 ERA tell just a small tale of how his season has went. His June numbers will make you lose your lunch as he went 0-4 in five starts with a 7.08 ERA as batters hit .319 off him. In two starts against San Diego this season Sanchez is 0-2 with a 5.91 ERA. This guy is awful in every which way you look at it and with the line what it is tonight I am riding this game all the way home.

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Padres are 2-8 in their last 10 games while the Giants are 6-4. In the head to head area San Diego is 6-3 in the first nine games between the two. With the line as favorable to the Giants as it is put a medium play on the Pads tonight.

Jordan’s Pick: San Diego Padres +138 (UNDERDOG SPECIAL)

The BEST BET streak as I am sure you all already know has now reached 19 in a row. The Brew Crew were clutch as Prince Fielder’s infield single was the difference on Wednesday night. We took last night off as nothing really sparked my interest. Big night tonight as we look to hit the 20 in a row mark. Your feedback is appreciated and always welcome. And away we go.

Documented MLB Record:
94-61-1 OVERALL
41-19-1 BEST BETS

Josh Banks isn’t all that & last years record against the Giants don’t mean much for this year so all in all he don’t own anyone (Danks).Sanchez definately is worse, but since you mentioned how good the Giants hitters are (atrocious)then the best bet is to stay away from this game totally,b/c +138 (SD) sure is not a great value #..
I’m sure that there are better games out there tonight Jordan (even though your are the man!!) And did you know that VG & T Hunter are both on the DL for the Halos??
Thinkin i likin the Yankes line-up alittle better here if
i were to play on this game, just my opinion. Also Chamberlain is no chump compared to Saunders #’s.
    Your opinion please!!

The Halos have the Yanks number overall and Saunders is much more established then Joba. The Padres have the better pitcher on the mound and a guy who killed San Fran last season. Sanchez has gotten bombed by SD and just about everyone else this season. Both my plays I like and I fully expect to be at 20 straight BB after tonight

    thanks, Jordan
