Panthers Could Trade Running Back DeAngelo Williams
Written December 23, 2009 by Jason Lowry
Could this be the end of DeAngelo Williams run with the Carolina Panthers? According to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald, the Panthers could seriously consider moving the star back before the start of next season.
Williams has just one year remainging on his rookie contract and if the team believes that the younger Jonathan Stewart is ready to step into the star role, they could send Williams on his way.
Williams has just four seasons under his belt, and hasn’t really racked up a ton of carries as a Panther. Williams emerged last season as one of the most electrifying backs in the game with his 1,515 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns. While the Panthers have taken a step back in 2009, Williams has still put up solid numbers with 1,117 yards and 7 touchdowns, but Stewart is showing he can do much of the same things Williams can, as Stewart has ran for 917 yards and 9 scores this season.
If the Panthers can get the right package in return for Williams, whether it be draft picks or players, I think it’s something they will seriously have to consider. The move could have a huge impact on a lot of teams NFL odds next season, depending on where/if Williams goes, and what the Panthers possibly could get in return.
