New England Patriots at San Diego Chargers Football Picks & NFL Odds

Written October 9, 2008 by Jay Todd

New England and San Diego meet up for an important game in AFC play. Both teams enter this game struggling defensively. These two teams have combined to play nine games and have covered the over in six of them. Look for them to do that once again this week. The NFL betting odds on this game show that San Diego is a 6-point favorite over the Patriots at Bookmaker, with the total set at 44.

New England and San Diego have both had trouble stopping opponents this year. The Patriots are giving up 29.5 points per game in their last two games. They have allowed 100 yards rushing in three of their four games, including over 200 against the Dolphins. Look for LaDanian Tomlinson to have a huge game, as it seems as though he will always play with a chip on his should against New England.

Philip Rivers has played outstanding thus far this season. Rivers has already passed for 1183 yards and has thrown 11 touchdowns. Look for Rivers to feed off a big day from LT and continue to put up Pro Bowl-type numbers.

San Diego’s defense has been very poor early on. They have giving up 29.5 points per game and have given up 38 points or more on two separate occasions. As we all know New England can still point up points with Tom Brady. Cassel finally showed that he is growing comfortable behind center. He completed a career high 22 passes last week and threw for 259 yards and a score. Look for the connection between Cassel and Randy Moss to continue to grow. Cassel will have a big day.

Two teams with struggling defenses and high powered offenses make this game a no-brainer. Jay Todd says to play the OVER between New England and San Diego as part of his week 6 NFL picks.
