Sunoco Red Cross Pennsylvania 500 Picks
Written by Jason Lowry
NASCAR head back to Pocono Raceway this weekend, as drivers get ready for the 2008 Pennsylvania 500. Last week many drivers and fans left watching the Brickyard feeling upset and disappointed as drivers were really bogged down because of a big tire problem that really didn’t let things get going. Either way Jimmie Johnson was able to get closer to his 3rd straight Sprint Cup championship with his 2nd win of the season. This is the 2nd of two races that are held here at Pocono, and Kasey Kahne was the winner of the first one at the Pocono 500. For the actually Pennsylvania 500, Kurt Busch is the defending champion, and has actually won this race two of the last 3 years. To help you get going on the race this weekend Jason Lowry is going to take a closer look at the top 4 favorites chances to win this weekend.
Kasey Kahne +500 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Kahne has struggled slightly since his great stretch in the middle of the season, where he had 2 wins and a 2nd place finish in a span of 4 races. Since that time he has finish outside the top 30 just as many times as he has finished in the top 10. Coming back to Pocono where he won the earlier race this year should give him some extra confidence going into the weekend, and a big finish this weekend could go a long way to securing his spot in the top 12.
Kyle Busch + 600 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Busch struggled a ittle last week finishing 15th, but he still holds a firm grip on the point cup standings. So far at Pocono Busch has only 1 top 5 finish and 2 in the top 10, but that is no reason to stay clear of this guy this weekend. Busch has dominated this season winning 7 times alone on the Sprint Cup series. Busch is a safe pick every week, and we see no reason why he would disappoint this weekend.
Jimmie Johnson +600 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Johnson has had some success here at Pocono as he has won here twice back in 2004. Johnson seems to be in this race nearly each and every week, and is coming off a 6th place finish here earlier in the year at the Pocono 500. Johnson sits in 4th place 315 points behind the leader Busch, and another win this weekend could get the 2 time defending champion even closer.
Denny Hamlin +600 odds to win at Sportsbook.com
Hamlin seems to be sitting pretty safe at 8th place in the point standings, and a solid finish this weekend could put him safely in the top 12 for seasons end. Hamlin like Johnson has won this race twice in the same year, as he did so back in 2006. Not only has Hamlin won this race twice in his career, he has never finished worse than 6th in 5 races at Pocono. After a 3rd place finish at the Pocono 500 earlier this year you have to like the drivers chances this weekend.
