Philadelphia Eagles Odds to Win 2011 NFC Championship

You will find the Philadelphia Eagles at a decent price to get to the Super Bowl this season. Locked in as the No. 3 seed, Phillly is listed at +450 to win the 2011 NFC Championship over at BetUS. The Eagles did not close out the season strong and actually finished in a four-way tie at 10-6, but tiebreakers were in their favor. Michael Vick and company will be looking to get back to the way they were playing midway through the season to make a run at a Lombardi Trophy.
Philly has the fourth-worst odds to reach the Super Bowl, in a tie with No. 2 seed Chicago at +450. Because this team has Vick and they are so explosive offensively, it’s not a bad value bet. But what could prevent the Eagles from reaching the big dance is a defense that is one of the worst in the playoffs. The Eagles allow 23.6 points per game on the season and 327 total yards per contest, ranking 12th in total defense.
Philadelphia closed out the season with back-to-back losses against the Minnesota Vikings and Dallas Cowboys, though they had nothing to play for in the final week and rested numerous starters including Vick. They need to find a way to regain some momentum, and getting off to a fast start when they host the Green Bay Packers on Saturday as 3-point home favorites would be a good way to start.
The Eagles may get back starting middle linebacker Stewart Bradley, who has been out for a month with a dislocated right elbow. He has been telling reporters that he would be ready to play against the Packers, and getting him back would be a huge boost for a defense that has looked very vulnerable over the last several weeks.
A big concern on offense for this team is the fact that even with Vick’s scrambling ability, the offensive line gave up 50 sacks this season which is the second-highest mark in the league. They’ll be tested right away against one of the league’s best pass rushes in the Green Bay Packers, and even if they are to get through this game the rest of the NFC teams have proven they can get to the quarterback as well.
What can bail out the Eagles is the league’s No. 2 ranked unit in total offense at 389 total yards per game. Philly runs for 145 yards and throws for 244 yards on average, and have more playmakers on this side of the ball than any other team in the game. The Eagles scored 27.4 points per game this season even after a couple lackluster performances over the final two weeks.
Vick has thrown for 3,018 yards and 21 touchdowns to 6 interceptions, while also rushing for 676 yards and a team-high nine scores on the ground. LeSean McCoy is a dynamic weapon, rushing for 1,080 yards and 7 touchdowns and also catching a team-best 78 balls for 592 yards and a pair of scores. DeSean Jackson is their big-play guy, catching 47 passes for 1,056 yards (22.5 average) and 6 touchdowns. Jeremy Maclin gets overlooked and is certainly underrated, as he has recorded 70 receptions for 964 yards and a team-high 10 touchdown grabs.
If there’s one team that is showing great value in the NFC, it’s certainly the Philadelphia Eagles. They are going to have to go on the road and win a game even if they beat the Packers, but they have proven they can do that as Philly is 6-2 on the road this season. Their big-play ability gives them a chance in any game, especially with Vick playing the best football of his career.
Got something to say?
