Philadelphia Philles at Los Angeles Dodgers Preview & Predictions
Written June 4, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
The Phillies are 31-20 on the year and are currently enjoying a six game winning streak. They sit on top of the AL East and look to be in complete control. Ryan Howard is looking like the early season MVP as he has posted 16 home runs (a couple have went 450+ feet) and 45 RBIs. He by no means is a one man show as newly acquired free agent Raul Ibanez has 19 home runs and 52 RBIs while hitting .337 from the plate. He will cool off a bit but with the Chase Utley and Shane Victorino are playing that won’t matter. The ace of staff, Cole Hamels takes the mound tonight. His struggles this season are certainly due to injury problems. He is 3-2 with a 5.21 ERA. Although his numbers are not pretty, you know he can be counted on due to his performance in the past. In his only start against the Dodgers this season he went seven innings allowing only seven hits and one earned run. Expect him to pitch very well tonight as all of his three wins this year have come at night time. Victorino will be counted on to steal bases tonight as they will try to get Kershaw rattled.
The Dodgers are 37-18 on the season and are coming off a series win at Arizona where they won the last two games of the series. While they have not had the same power since Manny’s embarrassing departure, they have not had any notable setbacks. Juan Pierre has been tremendous hitting .371 while also posting 21 RBIs from the lead off spot. Casey Blake leads the team with nine homers. He also has 35 RBIs. Ethier, Hudson and Kemp all have 30+ RBIs with James Loney being the team leader with 41 runs batted in. So a ton of balance the Dodgers have which makes them a dangerous team as they can beat you in many different ways. Tonight LA sends Clayton Kershaw to the mound. This year he is 3-3 with a 4.34 ERA. In his only start against Philly this year he picked up the loss going five innings allowing four runs and walked four batters. James Loney and Matt Kemp will play big roles at the plate tonight as key two out hits will be crucial. Look for Hamels to control the game and in order for the Dodgers to get the victory they will need to get the clutch hits. Just don’t bank on it.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Phillies are on a six game winning streak and are the best road team in baseball. The Dodgers are 40-14 in their last 54 homes games. In the head to head match up Philadelphia is 9-3 in the last twelve games. Look for Ryan Howard and the Phillies to take this game tonight as a 6-3 score is very much likely.
Jordan’s Picks: Philadelphia Phillies -107 (BEST BET) & OVER 8 Runs (Small Play)
A nice sweep of the Sox game last night as it went precisely as i said it would. Red Sox -1.5 cruised as they scored 10 runs to the Tigers 5. That also splattered our OVER 9 runs. 100+ games in now our winning percentage is over 60%. Lets not be satisfied, lets go get that money.
Documented MLB Record:
62-39 OVERALL
