Baseball Picks: Philadelphia Philles vs New York Mets

Written June 11, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz

phillies-mets-predictions-061109At 34-23, the Philadelphia Phillies stand in first place in the AL East by three games. Down 4-1 last night against the Mets, they rallied to tie the game late and then in the 11th inning got a home run from Chase Utley (his second of the night) which gave them a 5-4 victory. This team’s power is second to none in baseball. Ryan Howard has 18 home runs and 48 RBIs, Raul Ibanez has collected 20 homers and 55 RBIs while Chase Utley has added 15 home runs and 41 RBIs. Along with the three studs, guys like Jayson Werth, Shane Victorino and Pedro Feliz continue to play good ball which is much needed with the way Rollins continues to struggle. Tonight Jamie Moyer takes the mound and oh boy do I have mixed opinions on him. He is 4-5 with a 6.27 ERA on the season. However, in his last two starts he has combined for 13 innings while allowing only three runs. Location, location, location. That is all that Moyer can do to be successful as his fastball is identical to any other pitchers change up. In two starts versus the Mets this year he has gotten rocked, tonight, may just be different. Look for Ryan Howard to feast of Mets pitching tonight. The Phillies will come out like gang busters.  Thursday’s MLB lines show the Phillies -104 against the Mets with the over/under set at 9.5 runs.

The Mets suffered a devastating loss last night to the Phillies. Blowing a late inning lead is something this team can not let happen due to the injuries they have. At 31-26, the Mets are struggling to stay a float. David Wright continues to confuse every body with his red hot/ice cold season. His .354 batting average is wonderful but is reality he has not played as well as that shows. He only has four home runs to show for his year so far along with 35 RBIs. Carlos Beltran has been very solid, hitting .342 with eight home runs and 35 RBIs. The difference is Beltran has come up with big hit in the clutch and has played better in the field. With injuries to Carlos Delgado and the extremely overrated Jose Reyes, New York has been looking for that third guy to come up big and they most certainly have not gotten any takers. Tim Redding gets the nod tonight and will look to improve his game. He is 0-2 through his first four games and has an ERA of 6.97. He is coming off a good start at Washington, but tonight he isn’t facing the lowly Nationals. Here is a stat for you Mets fans to chew on. Left handed batters are hitting .356 off Redding this year. Howard, Utley, Rollins and Victorino all hit from the left side. Uh oh, catch my drift?

Haimo’s Hot Notes: The Phillies have gone 9-3 in their last 12 games overall. The Mets are 12-4 in their last 16 home games. In the head to head match up, New York is 4-2 this year through the first six games. Tonight though, Philly will hand them a ole fashion beat down. Lefties crush Redding and we all know what type of bats hit from the left hand side for the Phillies. Moyer will get tagged for a couple but nothing to bad. BEST BET on the Phillies and a small play on the OVER.

Jordan’s Picks: Phillies -104 (BEST BET) & OVER 9.5 (Small Play)

The BEST BET streak has reached five wins in a row as the Tigers won 2-1 yesterday and basically played the game as i said they would. while it was only a one run game if you watched it live like I did it was never a doubt who would come out victorious. We split the Baltimore/Seattle double as we hit the UNDER but missed on the O’s. Bad breaks combined with Felix pitching great. Overall another big profit day as we look tonight to continue our BEST BET streak. Make sure to come to Jordan with Betfirms for all your picks and as always, comments are encouraged.
