Pittsburgh at South Florida College Football Picks
Written September 30, 2008 by Jay Todd

With the early season struggles of West Virginia, USF is now the favorite to win the Big East. The Bulls, lead by quarterback Matt Grothe, are coming off a blowout win at North Carolina State and look to carry that momentum into Thursday night’s game against Pitt. The Panthers got off to a horrible start losing at home against an average Bowling Green team, and although winning three straight games they have still looked very sloppy. The early odds on this game at BetUS shows South Florida favored by 13.5 points over Pittsburgh.
South Florida is once again lead by quarterback Matt Grothe. Grothe has been solid all season long. He has tossed eight touchdowns, but more importantly he is doing an outstanding job at holding onto the football, as he has only thrown two interceptions. Grothe has many different options to the throw the football to. Five USF wide outs have caught ten or more passing on the season. Look for Pitt to struggle to hold Grothe in check.
The Bulls have a verity of running backs they can throw at you. They have four players who have over 35 carries on the season, one being Grothe. Mike Forde and Moise Plancher will be the top two backs used by USF. They have combined for 344 yards and nine touchdowns on the year. Look for them to take advantage off Pitt’s run-stoppers, who have given up over 100 yards rushing in three of their four games.

The lone bright spot for the Panther’s offense this year as been running back LeSean McCoy. However, look for McCoy to have a difficult day getting anything going against the Bulls’ defense. South Florida is only giving up 58.8 yards per game on the ground, which is unbelievable. Look for Tyrone McKenzie to shawdow McCoy all night. McKenzie leads the Bulls with 31 total tackles, five of which for loss. Pitt will have a lot of trouble moving the ball on this powerful Bull defense.
With the smart play of Grothe and the Bulls’ offense, along with their stifling defense, look for the Bulls to cover this spread with ease. Jay Todd says, play South Florida -13.5 as the host the Pitt Panthers this Thursday night.
