2010 Preakness Stakes Post Positions
Written by Jack Jones
The post positions for the 2010 Preakness Stakes have been drawn, with Aikenite getting the No. 1 position. His team is probably not too thrilled about the news considering no horse has won from the inside position in the past 12 years. Position numbers 8 through 12 have found the winner’s circle seven times in the past 12 years. We also find that the No. 4, 7 and 8 posts have each produced two winners since 2000. It’s worth noting that Preakness favorite, Super Saver, has drawn the No. 8 position. Lookin at Lucky was favored to win the Kentucky Derby and is one of the favorites in the Preakness as well, and he will be one spot inside of Super Saver with the No. 7 post.
The three favorites in the Preakness all drew pretty good positions. We already noted Super Saver and Lookin at Lucky, but Paddy O’Prado drew the No. 10 post. He finished third in the Kentucky Derby after a late charge and is primed for another solid run at the Preakness. Last year, filly Rachel Alexandra won from the No. 13 position. It was the first time that a horse had ever won from that spot. There are only 12 horses in this year’s field since contender Hurricane Ike dropped out just a few days before the race with an injury. Let’s take a look at the 12 contenders, their post positions and their odds below.
1.) Aikenite (+2000)
2.) Schoolyard Dreams (+1600)
3.) Pleasant Prince (+1600)
4.) Northern Giant (+3300)
5.) Yawanna Twist (+2500)
6.) Jackson Bend (+2000)
7.) Lookin at Lucky (+400)
8.) Super Saver (+250)
9.) Caracortado (+1200)
10.) Paddy O’Prado (+300)
11.) First Dude (+2000)
12.) Dublin (+1200)

Got something to say?

Where is Ice Box? Give that horse a fast track instead of sloppy and this could have been a different Preakness!
Thanx 4 Positions
Eric,
Trainer Nick Zito and owner Robert LaPenta have decided to save Ice Box for the Belmont, which is hard to believe after a second-place finish at the Derby. I’m sure there’s more behind it then they are willing to share right now. But they do have Jackson Bend in the Preakness, so maybe they didn’t want to run two horses in this small field.
And you’re welcome.
