Purdue vs Oregon Point-Spread

The Oregon Ducks will try and put the LeGarrette Blount debacle behind them and look forward to hosting the Purdue Boilermakers this weekend. Blount sucker-punched Boise State’s Bryan Hout after their 8-19 loss last Thursday which led to his suspension for the remainder of the season. This will certainly be a distraction, but fortunately for the Ducks they have had a long week of practice to get over it. Now they must contend with a Purdue team that put up 52 points in a 52-31 victory over Toledo last Saturday. Take a look at the college football lines where you will find Oregon -12 over Purdue with a Total Set of 58.5 points.
Coach Chip Kelly said it best. “They have a good mindset,” Kelly said of his players. “Every week is a season, and the season this week is Purdue.” Replacing Blount in the backfield will be a trio of backs led by senior Andre Crenshaw and redshirt freshmen LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner. James and Barner bring speed to the table, while Crenshaw brings proven leadership. James did have two carries for 22 yards against Boise State last week and he’s just a big play waiting to happen. James is expected to get the start Saturday. Oregon’s offense has been explosive over the past two seasons with Kelly as the offensive coordinator. His debut as head coach saw the Ducks score a measly 8 points, but that should change against a sub-par Purdue defense this week. Oregon didn’t record a first down until mid-way through the third quarter against the Broncos. Pac-10 Player of the Year candidate, Jeremiah Masoli, will have to play much better this week. The defense did a superb job against Boise, limiting their high-powered offense to just 19 points. Another effort like that will be needed this Saturday if the Ducks are to avoid falling to 0-2 early in the season.

Tailback Ralph Bolden has made the most of his opportunity as Purdue’s featured back. He enters this September 12th game against Oregon as the nation’s leading rusher after scampering for 234 yards and two scores in the Boilermaker’s 52-31 win over Toledo. “He was coming off a knee injury (last year) and we were really short-handed at the running back position,” Purdue coach Danny Hope said. “He had a great spring and we really thought he’d be a special player this season.” So far so good for Bolden. Also contributing to the running game last week was Jaycen Taylor, who rushed 14 times for 81 yards and two scores. Joey Elliot did a good job at quarterback, passing for 220 yards and three touchdowns. But he was intercepted three times last week, and he cannot make those same mistakes if the Boilermakers are to be competitive on the road Saturday. Oregon won last year’s meeting with Purdue 32-26 in double overtime. Purdue did give up 423 passing yards to Toledo last week, so the stop unit will have a tall task ahead in trying to contain Masoli both in the air and on the ground.
