Purdue vs Duke Odds

The last game to tip in the Sweet 16 on Friday will be #4 seed Purdue against #1 seed Duke. Purdue started off their tournament by knocking off so-called “giant killer” #13 seed Siena in the first round, then pulled off an exciting victory over #5 seed Texas A&M in the second round. Duke hasn’t been met by much opposition in the tournament so far. They destroyed Arkansas Pine Bluff in the first round, then made quick work of Cal in the second round. Looking at the latest NCAA basketball betting lines, Duke is expected to win convincingly yet again as the Blue Devils are 8 point favorites over the Purdue Boilermakers. The total (over/under) for the game is set at 127.5 points.
#4 Purdue against #2 Duke – Purdue doesn’t seem like they’ve been slowed too much by the loss of their second-leading scorer, Robbie Hummel, who went down with a knee injury prior to the tournament. The problem is that they haven’t faced a team of Duke’s caliber without Hummel. They will need to continue playing well defensively, but they’ll also need to find more sources of offense. Duke would appear to have the edge in this matchup on offense, but their points come heavily from three players, Jon Scheyer (18.1 points per game), Kyle Singler (17.7 ppg), and Nolan Smith (17.2 ppg). The next-best scorer for the Blue Devils, Brain Zoubek averages just 5.6 points per game. For Purdue to win they will need to shut down at least one of Duke’s big three, as well as out-hustle the Blue Devils on defense and neither of those will be an easy task. Duke has cruised through the tournament to this point and while I don’t think this will be an easy win, it will be a win for Coach K and company.
Final Score Prediction: Duke 68, Purdue 61

Got something to say?

St. Mary’s is a great team and to be quite honest, I see it as Duke and St. Mary’s in the Elite Eight in the South Bracket but I could be wrong, Baylor can easily knock off St. Marys if they stop Omar Samhan. Purdue on the other hand is going to have a very tough time getting past Duke, especially if they weren’t able to beat Texas A&M in regulation time. Not to knock the Aggies, but neither Purdue or Texas A&M can match Duke.
Confused on who to take after all these upsets have happened all over the place? Who you got in the South Bracket? Duke the favourite? St. Mary’s the cinderella story? or do Purdue and Baylor prove me wrong? Either way this has been a GREAT tournament and has lived up to all the hype that has surrounded it!
