This week the New York Jets (3-2) get ready to take on the Oakland Raiders (1-4). The Jets are coming off an impressive win over the Bengals where they were able to take home a 26-14 win, but as for the Raiders it started ugly and ended ugly, as the Saints killed them 34-3. Even though the Raiders have won just 1 game this season and only had one other game even close, the oddsmakers are still giving them a good shot in this one, as the Jets come in just 3 point favorites over the Raiders at Bookmaker.com
After throwing for a career best 6 touchdowns, many wondered how Favre would respond against the Bengals last weekend, and it ended up being not so good. Favre threw for just 189 yards and a touchdown, while throwing 2 interceptions. Good news for the Jets was running back Thomas Jones was ready to go, as he racked up 65 yards on just 17 carries and 2 scores, plus Jones had the lone receiving touchdown as well. Look for the Jets to take advantage of the Raiders 29th ranked defense this weekend, and look for Favre to have a much better day throwing the football.

The Jets defense also stepped it up last week, holding the Bengals to just 152 yards through the air, and really shutting down the running game only allowing 43 yards. Now you have to remember that Carson Palmer wasn’t under center for the Bengals so they weren’t anywhere near the offensive unit they are capable of being, but you have to like what you saw out of the Jets, in the fact that they made sure they took care of business against a team when they were weak. The key to stopping the Raiders is stopping the run, and sometimes you don’t even have to do that. Bet Jets -3 at Bookmaker.com
After playing pretty good football and atleast making things interesting over the last 3 weeks, the Raiders stunk up the field last week, as the Saints completely shutdown the running game of Justin Fargas and Darren McFadden. The duo combined for only 65 yards and quarterback JaMarcus Russell was little help throwing the football for just 159 yards and an interception on just 13 of 35 passing. Its hard telling whats exactly wrong with the Raiders offense, but we wouldn’t bet our money on them turning it around anytime soon.
Now giving a little credit to the Raiders defense Drew Brees has been lighting up every defense he has faced this year, so his 320 yards passing and 3 touchdowns aren’t much to get worked up about, but the fact that he completed 26 of 30 passes, has to make you wonder if this defense has any idea what its doing against the pass at all. Now the Raiders did hold McAllister and Bush to just 92 yards combined, but that really doesn’t mean much if they could throw it whenever they wanted. If Favre is going to have anywhere near the kind of success that Brees did, this game is over before it even starts. Bet Raiders +3 at Bookmaker.com
