Oakland Raiders vs. Baltimore Ravens NFL Betting & Spread
Written October 23, 2008 by Jason Lowry

This week the Baltimore Ravens and Oakland Raiders square off in what should be a good AFC battle. After both the Raiders and Ravens lost 3 straight, they both answered with wins last week, as the Raiders shocked the Jets 16-13 in overtime and the Ravens went into Miami and shutdown the Dolphins for a 27-13 win. The oddsmakers don’t think this one will be all that close though, as they have the Raven 7 point favorites over the Raiders at Bookmaker.com
The reason the Raiders might come into this one getting so many points, is they really haven’t been that impressive on the road, as their only win game against a weak Chiefs team. Last week the Raiders might have saw the beginning of something really good in Oakland, as JaMarcuss Russell really performed well throwing for 203 yards and a score, and really made some good throws in overtime. The Raiders continue to keep rookie running back Darren McFaddens carries low, as he ran just 8 times for 15 yards against the Jets, while starter Justin Fargas ran it 28 times for 74 yards. One concern you might have with the Raiders offense is they only found the endzone once, and they go up against a very tough Ravens defense this weekend.

The Raiders defense really bounced back after getting rocked by the Saints two weeks ago, as they forced Brett Favre to throw 2 interceptions and didn’t let the future Hall of Famer throw a single touchdown. The Raiders did let running back Thomas Jones run all over them for 159 yards, and the Jets as a team had well over 200. Going against a Ravens offense that is all about the run, this defense better find a way to sure things up before the game this weekend. Bet Raiders +7 at Bookmaker.com
The Ravens finally looked like the team that that started the season 2-0, as they were the first team to really shutdown the Dolphins crazy formations and play calling. First lets take a look at the offense who threw for 232 yards on 17 of 32 passing and had a 11 yard touchdown strike to the veteran Derrick Mason. This has to be a sigh of relief for Ravens fans, as Flacco threw 3 interceptions in his previous performance against the Colts. The Ravens also got their best game of the season out of running back Willis McGahee who ran it 19 times for 105 yards and a score, plus he added 2 catches for 47 yards. The Ravens will likely look to get that running game going against the Raiders and keep Flacco from having to do as little as needed to take home the win.
The Ravens defense also rebounded after a poor performance the week before, as they let the Colts pretty much do what the pleases against them two weeks ago. Last week though the Ravens became the first team since to really slow down Ronnie Brown after his outburst against the Patriots, as Brown had just 27 yards on 13 carries and zero touchdowns. The Ravens pass defense was a little weak again against the Dolphins as they let Chad Pennington throw for 295 yards and score, but linebacker Terrell Suggs intercepted one of those passes 44 yards back for a touchdown. Look for the Ravens to try and keep that Raiders rushing attack in check, and hope that Russell has still got some time before he can really start taking over games. Bet Ravens -7 at Bookmaker.com
