Rampage Jackson v. Wanderlai Silva Predictions & UFC Picks
Written December 25, 2008 by Jack Jones

I feel like there may be some bettor opportunities out there for us to bet UFC 92, but the Rampage/Silva Part III is one I’m personally looking forward to. I probably won’t bet this fight, but if you are going to then here are my opinions on it. Please leave any comments below if you think you have something to add, I by no means feel like I know anything and everything about both fighters, but I am more than just a casual fan. If you are going to bet this fight or any other, then consider BetUS. We have negotiated a FREE $75 when you signup and tell them BetFirms.com sent you.
Rampage benefits from a great personality and gimmick with his howling stuff. When fighters are this popular they tend to be overvalued. One reason for me to want to stay away from Jackson. Wanderlai on the other hand beat up some undersized guys when he was possibly on the steroids in PRIDE. It seems like since he’s been subjected to testing here in the states he has looked a little weaker, but then again that could just be him getting older, or wearing out from taking on so many great fighters who were bigger than him.
I feel like this should be a good fight where both fighters want to stay on their feet, but neither has looked real great over their last several matches. Both of them are past their prime and either one of them could probably win, so I think betting on this fight is kind of a toss up. You won’t confuse these two with being at the top of the division as these days you have to like Evans, Griffin, Machida and Thiago to take down either one. That group is just younger and more rounded skill-wise.
If I’m forced to pick I would say that Rampage has worked on his overall skills and is better than he was back four or five years ago. He is a better wrestler and striker these days. Despite Silva’s domination of Keith Jardine, I would say it’s pretty obvious that he has peaked in terms of overall ability. And, lastly that even with Silva being a bit heavier these days, it seems to be like he’s undersized for light heavyweight, while Rampage is massive for 205 lbs.
The way Silva beat Jardine was by going right after him. He knew that Jardine didn’t have the power to knock him out. Rampage on the other hand has that power and can do so. This fight will look a lot like the Liddell/Silva did in the opening round. Rampage will need to be precise and technical with his strikes, and you will probably see Silva land a bomb or two, but Jackson has a solid chin that will take the blows. Silva has some wild striking that has a small chance of landing to bring Rampage down.
If Silva is persistent with it, he will get beat up on the inside with dirty boxing and Rampage will be able to put him on his back like he did Dan Henderson. The overall edge in this one would probably go to Rampage, plus he’s a slight dog so in a toss up those are normally the bets I like to make.
Good luck with whoever you take, and remember to collect your FREE $75 for signing up at BetUS through BetFirms!
