St Louis Rams vs. Arizona Cardinals NFL Betting Odds & Spread

Written December 5, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Arizona Cardinals might be headed for their first playoff appearance in years, but they better get things turned around pretty quick if they want to be a force come playoff time. Last week the Cardinals got whooped up by the Eagles-20, but they host the St Louis Rams this week, who lost their 6th straight game last week to Miami 12-16 at home. Now one of those 6 losses came to the Cardinals just 5 weeks ago, as the Cardinals beat up on the Rams 34-13 at St Louis. So for those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the game this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Cardinals 14 point favorites over the Rams at Sportsbook.com

Now the Rams looked a lot better last week,a s they actually kept the game close for once, but even with Steven Jackson back in the lineup the Rams were still unable to score an offensive touchdown in this one, and they have now scored just 1 touchdown in their last 4 games. Now Jackson at least got this team to moving the football again, as he over a 100 yards of total offense, and 94 yards on the ground, but Marc Bulger was not good at all throwing the football, as he completed just 16 of 35 passes for 149 yards with 3 interceptions. Now the Rams had little success against the Cardinals last time around, and we really don’t see how they expect to turn it around this week on the road.

The Rams defense had not been playing good over their current losing streak, but they were much better last week against the Dolphins as the only touchdown they gave up was on a 3 yard touchdown run by Ronnie Brown early in the 2nd quarter. Considering just how bad the offense played the defense only allowed Chad Pennington to throw for 166 yards and the duo of Brown and Ricky Williams had just barely over a 100 on the ground. Now they face the Cardinals high flying passing attack, that torched them on their home field, and they couldn’t stop the run very well either, but the Rams have pulled off some crazy upsets this season, so you never know what Rams teams is going to show up. Now the Cardinals are scoring points, but the offense is turning the ball over and the defense is not helping them out. Last week they didn’t give the defense much of a chance, as Kurt Warner threw 3 interceptions and Aquan Boldin fumbled away another. Now Warner did throw for 235 yards and 3 scores, but they had absolutely no running game in this one, as they ran it just 10 times the whole game for 25 yards. Now last time they faced the Rams Tim Hightower was a force running the football, as he carried it 22 times for 109 yards and a touchdown, while Warner threw for 342 and 2 scores with no interceptions, so you have to think this offense is going to get things going in the right direction come Sunday.

Now the offense isn’t helping the defense out, as you can’t really expect to win to many games when you turn the ball over 4 times, but they made it easy for the Eagles to move the football last week, as McNabb threw for 4 touchdowns and Brian Westbrook ran for 110 yards and two more. Now the Rams had a pretty banged up Steven Jackson last time around, and if Jackson can come into this one ready to go, we think he is going to really give this defense some trouble, but enough for the Cardinals to lose this game? We don’t think so, Bet Cardinals -14 at Sportsbook.com
