Rams vs. Titans Line
Written by Hector Garza
Whether Vince Young can play in this game may not matter, as the Rams join Tampa Bay with the league’s worst record at 1-11. Tennessee (5-7) is enjoying greater success due to the play of Young. After starting the season 0-6, they’re 5-1 since reinstating him as the starting play caller. Last week they gave the undefeated Indianapolis Colts a good run in the 27-17 loss. This week’s game is scheduled for Sunday at 4:05 pm et and our NFL point spreads have the Rams as the underdogs by 13, with the over set at 41.
Young was reported to have tweaked his right knee in Thursday’s practice, the same one he injured in last week’s game, but head coach Jeff Fisher expects him to play tomorrow. In six games he’s thrown for 1,251 yards with six touchdowns and three interceptions. He’s shown more maturity in staying in the pocket this year and completing big passes, but his ability to make plays with his feet also helps to keep drives alive. He’s third on the team with 175 yards rushing and one score, but has also fumbled the ball six times. Kenny Brit seems to be his favorite target, and has had a good year with 576 yards on 36 receptions and three scores. The biggest offensive threat this year has been RB Chris Johnson, who’s pushing to break the 2,000 yard barrier. He’ll need 491 yards over the next four games to accomplish the feat. On the defense, five different players have recorded three of more sacks, and they should be able to get good pressure against a sketchy offensive line. CB Cortland Finnegan will be called on to shut down Donnie Avery, and should be up to the task with his three interceptions and seven passes defended.
St. Louis is looking to shake things up this week, and rookie QB Keith Null may be getting the start with Kyle Boller hampered with a thigh injury. Head coach Steve Spagnuolo made it clear that if Boller was ok, he would get the start with Marc Bulger out 3-6 weeks on a fractured leg. Boller has inherited an anemic offense that’s score fourteen times in twelve games, and he’s thrown for 876 yards, three td’s and six interceptions. Stephen Jackson is one of the few highlights and leads the team in rushing and receptions. He’s got 1232 yards and four td’s on the ground, and has caught 44 passes for another 267. He’s been suffering back spasms as a result of being the focal point of every defense, but should be ready for Sunday. With FS Oshiomogho Atogwe on injured reserve, Craig Dahl will step in to slow down the threat of Young/Johnson. Stopping the run will be priority number one, where they currently rank 28th in the NFL with 146.2 ypg.
Surprisingly the Titans are giving up more ppg (26.3) than the Rams (26.2), so this game could surpass the forty point barrier. Unfortunately St. Louis has the worst offense in the league, where the Titans aren’t having as many problems putting points on the board. Jeff Fisher and company will hand St. Louis their fifth loss in a row at home, and you can check out more expert NFL picks here.
