Reed Not Expected to Play Against Steelers

Written December 26, 2009 by Jason Lowry

The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Baltimore Ravens are set to square off Sunday, in a must win for both teams if they want to return to the postseason. The Steelers come in at 7-7 and have to win their final two games just to have a chance, while the Ravens control their own destiny. But both teams will be without one of their top defensive playmakers, as ESPN is reporting that all-pro safety Ed Reed will likely sit out his fourth straight game this weekend with a nagging groin injury. As for the Steelers, they will be without their all-pro safety Troy Polamalu.

That isn’t the only blow the Ravens will have to overcome this weekend, as starting left tackle Jared Gaither is also listed as doubtful against the Steelers. I think that both of these injuries could really make things difficult for the Ravens. In the two teams previous matchup the Steelers had to start Dennis Dixon in place of Ben Roethlisberger, and while the Ravens were able to sneak one out in overtime 20-17, it’s going to be a lot harder for the Ravens with Roethlisberger back on the field. This is where the loss of Reed could really make an impact on this game.

If you are looking at the NFL odds for the Steelers Ravens game, its pretty close, as the Steelers come in 2.5 point favorites. In my opinion I think this game is going to come right down to the wire, and if I had to give the edge to either team it would be the Steelers.
