Baltimore Ravens 2009 Super Bowl Odds

The Baltimore Ravens are headed back to the AFC Championship game for the first time since 2000 when they won the Super Bowl. Ravens fans weren’t sure what to expect with a rookie quarterback Joe Flacco taking over, and after a 2-3 start it looked like this team was at least another year from getting back to the postseason, but this team under the outstanding play of their defense won 9 of their final 11 games to finish the regular season 11-5. I believe that the signature win for this team came in week 16 against the Cowboys where they went into Dallas and beat up on America’s team 33-24, and had they lost that game it would have been the Patriots in the postseason and the Ravens would have been the team at home watching the playoffs. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting on the Ravens chances this postseason, the oddsmakers have the Baltimore Ravens +300 to win the Super Bowl at Sportsbook.com.

Against the Dolphins in the wild card round, the Ravens were able to control the entire game, as they wound up taking home an easy 27-9 win on the road. The defense forced Chad Pennington to throw 4 interceptions, and Ed Reed was the recipient of two of those picks, and he took one of them back 64 yards for a touchdown. Flacco wasn’t spectacular by any means completing just 9 of 23 passes for 135 yards, did have a 5 yards touchdown run in the 4th quarter. The Ravens other offensive touchdown came on a 8 yard run by Le’Ron McClain who along with Willis McGahee combined to run for 137 yards against the Dolphins.

This past weekend against the Titans, the Ravens could only muster 211 yards of offense, and the only touchdown came on a 48 yard strike from Flacco to Derrick Mason. Flacco wound up with just 161 yards through the air, and the Titans completely shutdown the running game, as McClain and McGahee combined for just 44 yards on the ground. The defense made sure this team wasn’t going anywhere but the AFC Championship game, as they held the Titans to just 10 points, as they forced two huge fumbles when then Titans were threatening to score. The Ravens also got some help in this one, as rookie Chris Johnson had to sit out the second half for the Titans after running for 72 yards and a score, and also had a catch for 28 yards. But when it all came down to it Matt Stover hit the game winner from 43 yards out with less than a minute to go in the game.

This weekend the Ravens will get another shot at the Pittsburgh Steelers, as these two teams will hook up for the 3rd time this season in the AFC Championship game. The Steelers won both meetings in the regular season, but by a very slim 7 total points. This has all the makings of another defensive showdown and as it stands now the oddsmakers have the Ravens 6 point underdogs against the Steelers at Sportsbook.com.
