Baltimore Ravens vs. Tennessee Titans NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written January 8, 2009 by Jason Lowry

This Saturday the Baltimore Ravens will try and make the Tennessee Titans playoff run short lived when the two teams do battle in the AFC Divisional round. The Titans come in with a solid 13-3 record, as they cruised through the regular season starting the season 10-0, and took over the AFC South from the Colts. The Ravens rebounded from a tough season in 2007 and thanks to a defense who found some life again, the Ravens were able to finish 2nd in the AFC North and secure a wild card win. Last week the Ravens took care of business on the road against the Dolphins, as they had a pretty easy time beating Miami 27-9. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the Titans 3 point favorites over the Ravens at BetUS.com.
The Ravens rookie quarterback Joe Flacco didn’t put up huge numbers last week, as he was just 9 of 23 for 135 yards, but did have a rushing touchdown to pretty much seal it up in the 4th and most importantly for this team he didn’t turn the ball over. With Flacco’s low passing numbers the only guy who really did anything was Derrick Mason who hauled in 4 balls for a team best 71 yards. This is a running football team and last week Le’Ron McClain and Willis McGahee put together a solid performance, as the two backs combined for 137 yards, and McClain added a 8 yard touchdown. The Ravens offense struggled to do much of anything when these two teams met back in week 5, as they scored just 10 points and Flacco threw 2 big interceptions. This week the Titans defense will be at full strength and that very well could mean it will be on Flaccos shoulders to win this game.
The one thing this team has going for them heading into to the game this weekend, is they have an outstanding defense. Last week they forced Chad Pennington into throwing 4 interceptions, including 2 by Ed Reed, one of which he took back 64 yards for a touchdown. Besides the obvious of stopping the Titans rushing attack, they have to make sure they keep an eye on Bo Scaife, who had 7 catches for a team best 72 yards when these two teams hooked up earlier this season. Bet Baltimore Ravens +3 at BetUS.com.
The Titans come into this one well rested and there is no secret what this team is going to try and do when the two teams collide this weekend, and thats pound the football with LenDale White and Chris Johnson, as the two combined for over 2,000 yards and 26 touchdowns this season. Though the Titans will be looking to run all day, it will likely come down to quarterback Kerry Collins who led the Titans on a game winning touchdown drive when the two teams met in week 5, even though he threw 2 interceptions. Against the Ravens the duo of Johnson and White had one of their worst performances of the season combining for just 48 yards and were unable to find the end zone. The Titans also need a better showing out of their receivers, as the tight ends did all the damage last time around.
The Titans also have one heck of a defense, and this unit was the reason this team was so good all season long. They are loaded up front with tackles Albert Haynesworth, Tony Brown, and Jason Jones, and they have two solid ends in Kyle Vanden Bosch and Jevon Kearse. With the Titan solid play up front, it led to big seasons by Pro Bowlers safety Chris Hope and corner Cortland Finnegan. Another guy who had a big season was strong safety Michael Griffin, who had 7 interceptions on the season, including one off Flacco back in week 5. Bet Tennessee Titans -3 at BetUS.com.
Lowry’s Lean on the Game: Titans -3
I see it playing out pretty much exactly like it did back in week 5, as neither offense is going to have much success in this one, but I have to give the edge to the Titans offense when it comes to who I think can score when it matters late. I also expect a much better day out of the duo of White and Johnson in this one.
Predicted Score: Titans 16 Ravens 10

Got something to say?

By three, you say? How about Ravens by thirteen?

Somehow Ravens by 3 turned out to be prophetic, probably should have been Titans by 13 though.

Even though I was on the Ravens myself, I feel like you were on the right side as the Titans should have won that game.
