RBC Canadian Open

We are fresh off an interesting British Open, as it was the first major without Tiger Woods in the field. There were plenty of great stories including Greg Norman’s amazing run that fell short on Sunday. When it was all said and done Padraig Harrington walked away with his 2nd straight Claret Jug. This week golfers stay out of the United States as they head to Oakville, Ontario for the 2008 RBC Canadian Open that is scheduled to get underway at Glen Abbey Golf Course this year. Defending champion Jim Furyk will be going for his 3rd straight title north of the border. To get a better look at the rest of the field lets take a look at professional handicapper Jason Lowry’s take on 3 golfers he feels have a great shot from all over the field.

Favorite: Jim Furyk +800
Furyk is going for his 3rd straight win at the Canadian Open, and this time he will be attacking a course he has yet to win at. With Furyk’s recent success in Canada you have to like his chances this weekend with a pretty week field. Furyk has been pretty hot as of late including a 3rd place finish at the AT&T National and a tie for 5th last week at the British Open.

Middle of the Pack: Camilo Villegas +2500
We think that this guy is starting to show signs that he is going to be making his mark on the PGA Tour shortly. Last week he threw out a 65 at some of the toughest conditions we have seen at the British Open, and while he didn’t have the best finish overall you have to like this guys swing. Villegas’s best finish came at the AT&T Classic back in May where he finished 3rd. Don’t be shocked if this guy doesn’t come away with his first win on tour this weekend.

Long Shot: Carl Pettersson +4000
Pettersson is one of those golfers that seems to be on one week and then he takes a couple weeks off and doesn’t finish anywhere near the top 10. After a rough go around at the Travelers Championship and a missed cut at the John Deere Classic, we think its time for Pettersson to get back in the Top 10 for the 5th time this season.
