Boston Red Sox at Oakland A’s: Baseball Picks
Written April 15, 2009 by Jordan Haimowitz
Another utter disappointing night for the Sox as the 2009 Season has started in awful fashion for them. Right about now people in Kenmore are starting to wonder what could be wrong with their starters. Lester has been rocked in both starts, Daisuke lasted a whopping one full inning and Beckett has started his late season emotions a tad early as we saw the other night. The Red Sox are 2-6 and better get on track quickly. They send knuckle ball specialist Tim Wakefield to the mound tonight who went 6 innings allowing 3 runs on six hits in his loss at LAA on April 10th. If Boston plans on getting this ship turned in the right direction it will start not with Wakefield, but with the top of their order which is non-existent right now. Here is a glance at the Red Sox top of the order through the first eight games. Beware, it is not pretty. Jacoby Ellsbury .200, Dustin Pedroia .179 and Davis Ortiz .208. Putrid numbers that are unacceptable in division with the Rays, Yankees and now the upset Blue Jays have entered the mix. They’ll need their 1,2,3 hitters to wake up tonight as Wakefield does not have much success against the A’s. Last season he went 0-1 in two starts with a 6.35 ERA. How about this for an in depth statement from a professional sports analyst. Hey, Red Sox, WAKE UP FELLAS, the season has started. The fun starts tonight, take the Sox as the line is worth the buck. Wednesday’s MLB lines show the Red Sox -106 at Oakland.
The Oakland Athletics are fresh off their thriller against the Red Sox which ended in a 7-6 win in the 12th inning by an infield hit from Travis Buck. The A’s are 4-4 on the season and look very much improved. Orlando Cabrera has been very steady to start the year and Matt Holliday will be getting that big contract if he keeps playing the way he is right now. Oakland sends 21 year old rookie pitcher Brett Anderson to the mound Wednesday night. In Anderson’s first start he got the loss against Seattle going 6 innings allowing 5 runs on seven hits. Tonight has all the tell tale signs of this young blood getting blasted. Its just a matter of time for Boston to get going and if not tonight against a rookie after losing the first two games of a series against a sub par team, then when. Giambi, Holliday and Cabrera has this team going in the right direction along side great young rookie Trevor Cahill. Tonight, must be the night, Boston gets going.
Haimo’s Hot Notes: Well, after starting 11-4 we hit a bit of a road block last night as Conor Jackson ruined our hopes on the UNDER 9 runs in the Cards/Dbacks game (Carpenter leaving in the 4th with an injury to his ribs didn’t help the case either) and Boston continued their 2009 slide. The line is currently at Boston – 105. JUMP ON IT, NOW! A veteran pitcher against a 21 year old rookie. This Red Sox team is a bunch who care about losing. They will be eager and motivated to teach Anderson a lesson tonight. The Red Sox are considered an underdog tonight, they are 6-2 in their last eight games as an underdog. BEST BET, by a long shot.
Jordan’s Pick: Boston Red Sox -106 (BEST BET)
Documented MLB Record:
11-6 OVERALL
