It’s going to be Daisuke Matsuzaka, Dice-K to most, starting against the Tampa Bay Rays as the Boston Red Sox lead off their American League Championship Series down in St. Petersburg. Dice-K went 18-3 this year with a 2.90 ERA. He went five innings and gave up just a single run against the Rays in his last start back on September 15th, and gave up three runs in five innings in his sole playoff start against the Anaheim Angels last week. The odds for Game 1 show a dead even contest with Bookmaker listing Boston at +100 and the Rays at -110. Josh Beckett will get the start in Game 2. He was the World Series MVP for the Florida Marlins back in 2003, but has had some injury troubles over the past month and a half. His record was just 12-10 this year with a 4.03 ERA. On September 12th, he held the Rays to one ER and six hits in just six innings of work, but Tampa ended up winning the game 2-1. Beckett was lit up for nine hits and four runs in just five innings against Anaheim in the first round.
Jon Lester will go in Game 3 after a stellar pair of starts in the ALDS. He went 14 total innings and gave up just one run on ten hits. Both of his wins came against the Angels ace John Lackey. Lester made one start against the Rays and went 7 2/3 innings without giving up a run. For the year he was 16-6 with a 3.21 ERA.
The Game 4 starter will be Tim Wakefield. The Red Sox are -140 favorites to return to the World Series and then they are the favorites to win it all once again at +175.
