Washington Redskins vs. San Francisco 49ers NFL Betting Odds & Spread
Written December 26, 2008 by Jason Lowry

The Washington Redskins take on the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday, and while they can finish the season at 9-7 the playoffs are out of the picture. The 49ers have quietly turned things around this season under Mike Singletary and have won 4 of their last 6 games including a 17-16 win over the Rams last week. The Redskins also got a win last week, as they crushed the heart of Eagles fans winning 10-3 at home. For those of you looking to do a little NFL betting this weekend, the oddsmakers have the 49ers 3 point favorites over the Redskins at Bookmaker.com.
The Redskins snapped a 3 game losing streak with their win last week, as they kept the Eagles just inches out of the endzone with time expiring in regulation. Though it was a defensive battle the offense was led by the play of running back Clinton Portis, who ran it 22 times for 70 yards and a score. The passing game of Jason Campbell wasn’t all that impressive, as he completed just 18 of 33 attempts for 144 yards. The one thing the offense didn’t do was turn the ball over, and that is the staple of this offense when its playing good football. It won’t be easy against the 49ers this weekend, but we like there chances of making this a ball game.
Having to travel completely across the country over Christmas is going to hard on the entire team, but its the defense we are worried about, as they gave one heck of an effort at home last week allowing the Eagles just 3 points. If the defense can come back and finish the season off with another big performance than we like the Redskins chances, but we just aren’t so sure thats what will happen. Bet Washington Redskins +3 at Bookmaker.com.
The way the 49ers have finished the season so far, and as bad as the NFC West is, it;s not out of the question that this team can come back and win this divison next season. Against the Rams they fell behind early, as Shaun Hill really struggled to throw the football throwing 3 interceptions, but 2 fourth quarter touchdowns let the 49ers take the lead and the win. With Frank Gore still out of action the backups struggled to run the ball, as the backs had just 38 yards on 13 carries, and Hill was actually the leading rusher with 45 yards on 4 attempts. Gore is uncertain about playing this Sunday, so its up to somebody to step in and get the job done.
The defense of the 49ers had one bad quarter where they let the Rams drive down for 3 scores, but to the defensives credit they held two of those drives to field goals. Good thing they did cause the Rams were moving the football in this one, as Marc Bulger threw for 227 yards and Steven Jackson added 108 yards on the ground. The defense better get it going this week or Portis is going to have a big day against this unit. Bet San Francisco 49ers -3 at Bookmaker.com.
Lowry’s Lean on the Game: 49ers -3
The travel is going to be too much for the Redskins, and its not like these guys have anything to play for in this one. At least the 49ers have their fans to impress and a coach that won’t let them take any plays off. We expect a close one, but the 49ers to come out on top.
Predicted Score: 49ers 17 Redskins 13
