Redskins Buccaneers Week 4 NFL Predictions
Written October 1, 2009 by Jason Lowry
The Washington Redskins have to be wondering what direction their football team is headed in, as they really looked bad last week against the Detroit Lions, as they allowed the Lions to snap their regular season losing streak with a 19-14 win. In week 4 the Redskins will try to keep their season alive, as they host the winless Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who lost their third straight game in a blowout loss to the New York Giants 24-0 last week. For those of you looking to bet on the NFL this weekend, current NFL odds have the Redskins 7 point favorites over the Buccaneers at Sportsbook.com.
Buccaneers Preview: The Buccaneers are making a move at the quarterback position this week, as they are benching Byron Leftwich and starting the young Josh Johnson. Last week the Buccaneers offense could do nothing at all against the Giants defense, and after Leftwich started the game 7-16 for 22 yards and an interception, Johnson came in and took over the offense in the 4th quarter. While Johnson’s numbers weren’t great (4-10, 36 yards), he did lead the team on a solid drive, and added a nice 15 yard run. That 15 yards rushing was more than the entire team had combined (13). The Buccaneers defense wasn’t much better, as they let Eli Manning throw for 2 touchdowns, and gave up over 200 yards rushing. Luckily for the Bucs they go up against an offense that is equally as bad, as the Redskins come in averaging just 13 points a game. Things could go both ways for the Bucs this weekend, as its hard telling exactly what to expect out of the play of Johnson, but if the Bucs want any chance of winning this weekend, they have to be able to run the football better than they did last week. Bet the Buccaneers +7 to win at Sportsbook.com.
Redskins Preview: Head coach Jim Zorn has to be feeling the pressure after the Redskins really stunk it up last week against the Lions, and on top of it all star defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth injured his glute and might not be able to play this weekend. The Redskins also have some injury concerns with running back Clinton Portis and corner Carlos Rogers. Redskins quarterback Jason Campbell should also be feeling some pressure to perform better, because it’s unlikely they keep with him if he is unable to lead the offense to some more points. Campbell was 27 of 41 for 340 yards and 2 scores, but also had an interception. Wideout Santana Moss put in a good days work catching the football, as he hauled in 10 passes for 178 yards, including a 57 yard touchdown catch. One problem facing the Redskins offense is the running game, as they had just 65 yards on the ground, and 21 of those yards came on a run by Campbell, so its pretty easy to see that this team is not running the ball with much success with Portis not at a 100%. The Redskins really need the win this weekend, but after watching this team over the first 3 weeks of the season, its hard telling what you are going to get from this team. Bet the Redskins -7 to win this Sunday at Sportsbook.com.
Predicted Score: Buccaneers 13 Redskins 17
