Washington Redskins at Dallas Cowboys Week 4 NFL Picks

Written September 25, 2008 by Brad Marchetti

The Washington Redskins are having success in head coach Jim Zorn’s rookie season. This week, the Redskins will do battle against NFC East division powerhouse Dallas. The Washington Redskins vs Dallas Cowboys game will undoubtedly be a slugfest at Texas Stadium. The Cowboys appear to be the odds-on favorites early to be carrying the Lombardi Trophy in 2009. The Redskins have made strides in their last two games after struggling in the opener to the NY Giants. The NFL betting odds for the Washington Redskins vs Dallas Cowboys game is Dallas -11.5 points.

Washington QB Jason Campbell has played stellar in an offensive system that he was familiar with when he was a star in college at Auburn. Campbell has been burning defenses through the air with explosive WR Santana Moss (4.30 40-speed). Moss has helped bolster Campbell’s 100.1 passer rating with 3 TD’s. The Dallas defense has run either extremely hot or cold this season. Dallas’s 3-4 defense is ranked 6th in the NFC. The Cowboys have an excellent set of linebackers led by OLB DeMarcus Ware and ILB Zach Thomas. The suspect unit on the Cowboys defense has been their mediocre D-line. The Washington O-line is a group of oldies but goodies that have opened big holes for the running game. RB Clinton Portis (4.35 40-speed) has scored 3 rushing TD’s and backup Ladell Betts has been effective with 4.4 yards per carry. The Dallas secondary has bent but has yet to break. Will Jason Campbell burn Dallas with Moss and big TE Chris Cooley? Dallas will be without emotional leader S Roy Williams (forearm).

Dallas’s high powered offense has exploded for an average of 440.0 yards per game in their 3-0 start. The Dallas running game is the most potent in the NFL with Marion Barber and rookie Felix Jones. Jones (8.2 yards per carry 2 TD’s) is one of the most fluid runners in the NFL. Marion Barber has been nearly unstoppable with 4 TD’s and 285 rushing yards. The Redskins defense is ranked 8th in the NFC with a shaky secondary. Washington’s iffy secondary will be tested by a couple of All-Pro wideouts in TE Jason witten (20 rec. 273 yds.) and WR Terrell Owens (193 yds. 3 TD’s). Washington’s pass-rush has improved, but this week they will be facing a mammoth Dallas O-line without their star DE Jason Taylor (calf). The NFL betting odds for the Washington redskins vs Dallas Cowboys OVERUNDER is at 46 points.

Tony Romo has played well but he must be sure to protect the football against Washington. Redskins QB Jason Campbell has been looking like a threat with the ball in his hands and Romo needs to make sound decisions. If Campbell can execute the short pass to perfection he could expose some holes in Dallas’s 3-4 defense.
