Redskin’s Haynesworth Not Happy With Defense

Written December 26, 2009 by Jason Lowry

If the Washington Redskins season wasn’t already bad, it has taken a slight turn for the worse this past week, as ESPN is reporting that defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth feels unused in the current system. Haynesworth voiced his opinion after being sent home friday for showing up late to a team meeting.

The Redskins paid a lot of money to land Haynesworth this offseason, and it has not lead to the turnaround everyone was expecting on the defensive side of the ball. Haynesworth argued that he was playing as hard as he possibly could, but in this system he is unable to make the big plays we have all grown accustomed to. Haynesworth clearly made references to his days with Tennessee Titans, and pretty much started the petition for defensive coordinator Greg Blache to be fired.

There is no question that Haynesworth is extremely frustrated with not only his performance, but the teams as well. It’s likely the reason that he had such a short fuse in his scuffle with Brandon Jacobs last week.

The Redskins are still planning on playing Haynesworth this weekend when the team hosts the Dallas Cowboys, but it’s unclear if he will start. Looking at the NFL odds, the Redskins are big underdogs heading into the game, but they nearly beat the Cowboys back in week 11 and could use Haynesworth’s outburst to fuel the fire.
