Redskins Lions Week 3 NFL Predictions

Written September 25, 2009 by Jason Lowry

Redskins Lions NFL Week 3 PredictionsIts pretty evident that there isn’t a lot of interest surrounding the Detroit Lions and Washington Redskins game this Sunday, especially in Detroit, as the game is likely going to be blacked out to the surrounding area. Thats because the Lions haven’t won a game since week 16 of the 2007 season, and fans seem to have lost their faith in this team. Even though it doesn’t seem likely that the Redskins will lose this game, it is definitely a game the Lions could win if the Redskins don’t take them seriously. For those interested in the NFL odds for the game, the Redskins are 6.5 point favorites to win on the road over the Lions.

Lions Preview: After getting embarrassed by the Saints in week 1, the Lions showed some improvement in week 2, as they actually took the lead into halftime against division rival Minnesota, but Brett Farve and the Vikings got it together and won the game by two touchdowns. Rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford threw his first career touchdown, but also threw his fourth and fifth interceptions of the season. Star wideout Calvin Johnson has been his favorite target so far this season, as he was the recipient of the touchdown toss. Rookie tight end Brandon Pettigrew also got in on the action catching 4 passes for 40 yards. Kevin Smith carried the load in the running game, rushing it 24 times for 83 yards. The Redskins defense has played pretty well to start the season, which means the Lions can not afford to turn the ball over like they have in the first two weeks. The defense for the LIons has had its moments, but they are really going to miss the play of linebacker Ernie Sims, who will likely be out for some time. Bet the Lions +6.5 to win this Sunday at Sportsbook.com.

Redskins Preview: After suffering a loss in week 1 to the New York Giants, the Redskins welcomed the Rams to town for their season opener at home, but things didn’t go anywhere near as planned for the home team. The Redskins found themselves in a defensive battle, and barely snuck away with a 9-7 win. The Redskins offense has not looked good, as they were unable to score a touchdown in week 2 against a Rams defense that gave up 28 points in week 1. Quarterback Jason Campbell was 23 of 35 for 242 yards, but couldn’t make the big play when it was needed. Clinton Portis ran well, gaining 79 yards on 19 carries, but couldn’t bust the big one. Chris Cooley had 7 catches for 83 yards, but if this offense is going to get it going, the receivers have to start making plays. Regardless of how the offense plays, the Redskins defense should keep them in the game and give them a good chance to win this game. Bet the Redskins -6.5 to win this Sunday at Sportsbook.com.

My Prediction: Redskins -6.5
